Forbes Korea announced the income of Korean girl groups in the first half of 2014 and SM Entertainment’s Girls’ Generation was revealed to be at the top of the earnings chart. Girls’ Generation managed to earn TWD 880 million Taiwan Dollars (~$28.3 Million USD), overtaking the four-member group 2NE1, which has revenue of TWD 800 million (~$26.7 Million USD). However, the nine members of Girls’ Generation only received TWD 98 million (~$3.2 Million USD) per member, which equivalent to half of 2NE1’s per member income of TWD 200 million (~$6.7 Million USD). Girls’ Generation debut for almost seven years, yet their earnings never decrease. In February, they released the album , which managed to sell 158,119 copies and earned TWD 63.24 million. They also started their Japanese tour in April, at seven cities such as Fukuoka, Hiroshima and Tokyo. The 17 concerts were estimated to have attracted 200,000 in audiences and all tickets were sold out, earning them TWD 574.2 million. The group’s average age is 24 years old and even though Yoona, Sooyoung, Tiffany and Taeyeon are dating openly and being called as “dating generation”, their popularity is not being affected. On Forbes Korea, Girls’ Generation still managed to top the girl groups’ revenue chart of the first half of 2014 with an income of TWD 880 million. Meanwhile, T-ara is in third place with TWD 690 million (~$23 Million USD), following closely behind 2NE1 with TWD 800 million (~$26.7 Million USD). Meanwhile, Girls’ Generation’s senior- Super Junior (SJ) managed to earn TWD 910 million and defeated king of Hip-hop group BIGBANG, who earned TWD 850 million, to top the Korean boy groups’ revenue chart in first half of 2014. To add on, other groups from the same company- EXO, SHINee and TVXQ are also in top 10, showing that SM Entertainment has huge revenue in just the first half of the year. EXO, who just debut for two years and is coming to Taipei Arena for concert on 11th and 12th, managed to rank at number six with an income of TWD 640 million and defeated senior SHINee and TVXQ.
