Forty-eight million Americans live in poverty, and sixteen million - TopicsExpress

Forty-eight million Americans live in poverty, and sixteen million of them are children. I was struck by the recent image of the House GOP wing-nuts (whove voted to cut every program for the poor from free school lunches and Head Start to food stamps and medicaid) standing together for a photo op while singing together Amazing Grace !! Amazing hypocrisy is more accurate ! Jesus told a story about a rich man who lived a very comfortable life, while ignoring a poor beggar named Lazarus, to whom the rich man wouldnt even give the scraps from his table. After death, the rich man found himself tormented in a hellish state, while Lazarus was rewarded. While begging for mercy, the rich man was told: My child, remember that you received what was good during your lifetime, while Lazarus received what was bad.; but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented. Woe to you rich. Youve got yours now baby. I pity these fools who call themselves Christians, who live in relative comfort, and yet they not only ignore the poor but they take away what little the poor might have going for them, so that the comfortable can continue to live in the style to which theyve become accustomed. Coincidentally, Thursday, October 17th, the day that Speaker Boner finally allowed a House vote to raise the debt ceiling and fund the government... That day, like every October 17th, was also the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Ironic, eh.
