Fostering 2 dogs when you already have your own furry pack can be frustrating, inconvenient and tiring. Sometimes you find yourself - usually while moving yet another baby gate - questioning why you do it to yourself. You disrupt your house and your family and you just have to wonder why. And then on a cold night you get your answer. We had a last minute invitation to have dinner at our friends home. A couple hours turned to six and when I came home and saw Zoeys face in the laundry room window I was filled with guilt. Not only were they couped up all that time but they had to wait even longer as my one pups had to go out first. Emily and Zoey didnt cry, whine or bark. They just waited. And when it as finally their turn they ran outside but stopped to give me a kiss along the way. As I stood there freezing in my pajamas watching these two run and jump with joy I couldnt help but laugh. These sisters dont know about being angry or guilt trips; they just know how to live life and to enjoy whatever they have. As I watched them run I thought about all the dogs and cats sitting in shelters who would love to be in a laundry room tonight. Theyd love to get to go potty somewhere else besides a cage and to have someone there to add water to an empty bowl and kiss them goodnight. My wish for this holiday season extends far beyond these two girls whom I love so very much. I hope for the kittens, puppies, cats and dogs in shelters that they find their own special forever home. And for those that arent that lucky, I hope that record numbers of people open their bathrooms, laundry rooms and spare bedrooms to give these forgotten ones safe sanctuary until it is their turn to finally go home. Emily and Zoey love life and I am so glad they are in mine. Thanks girls for reminding me how to find joy in the smallest of things. Keep waiting patiently; soon enough you will find your forever home and they will be the luckiest humans ever
