Four cards today from the community of Peach Springs, AZ. As two - TopicsExpress

Four cards today from the community of Peach Springs, AZ. As two of these cards indicate Peach Springs was on the National Old Trails Highway pre-dating its time on Route 66. The first card has a date code of 1926 and was postmarked in Peach Springs in April 1934. The third card was also postmarked in Peach Springs in October 1935. The second and fourth cards show the main street through town looking east, and a birdseye view overlooking the town from a nearby hilltop. Today, Peach Springs is the administrative headquarters for the Hualapai who operate the Hualapai Lodge. Its also the jumping off point for most people heading to the town of Supai at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. The 2010 census listed the population at just over 1,000. Here are a couple of Street View shots looking both west and east - goo.gl/maps/BzuAX and goo.gl/maps/9pCvk. The John Osterman Shell Station was opened in 1929 and closed around 2000. The Hualaipai tribe has received a grant to restore and rehabilitate the building, and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. This Street View shot is from three years ago - goo.gl/maps/2ibbz. Tomorrow, Kingman, where well spend a few days looking over some old cards from years passed.
