Four years ago, I decided to move halfway across the country to a city where I knew practically no one. I left the only things I knew: Fairfax, Virginia, DC, my family, hometown friends, girlfriend, and the home I was raised in. My Dad and I packed my bags and made the road trip in August 2010 to an unexplored void. At first, after moving into my residence hall and settling in, it was scary. Going about trying to meet new people was daunting, and this new concrete jungle called Chicago makes one feel like a ghost simply struggling to exist if one allows it. Much sooner than I expected, I ran into a couple people over random games of air hockey. Hangouts ensued, music was shared, and those people in time became some of my best friends. They helped shape the Chicago I know and dearly love to this day and beyond. Ive witnessed Outrun The Sunlight from day one. From listening to early demos at the University Center, to hearing recording sessions blasting throughout our cozy Lakeview apartment, going to and photographing their shows, shooting studio sessions and music videos, and everything in between, it has been quite the journey, and continues to be a wonderful adventure. A lot has changed in my life over these four years. College is completed. Freelance video and photo work has become more of a reality thanks to opportunities through Consequence of Sound, Columbia College, and the goodwill of the people of Chicago. I ended my relationship with my high school sweetheart of five years and have started to embrace living life on my own accord. Ive grown closer with my family despite being so far away from them. Some of the best friendships of my life are continuously developing, and have been a true source of inspiration and strength through the highs and lows in life. Most of all, Chicago has become my home, the home I never knew I wanted until I made that leap of faith four years ago. Which leads to today: Outrun The Sunlight is releasing their newest album, Terrapin. Its nothing short of beautiful, a journey without words, for no words are needed. A journey that is a culmination of three years of hard work, new friends added to the band, and countless other developments. I couldnt be more proud of what they have unleashed upon the world, and can only hope this leads to bigger and better opportunities as the journey continues. Things continuously change in life, sometimes faster than we realize, and in ways we do and dont want them to change. But I am truly thankful and blessed for the constants: My family, my best friends, Chicago, and Terrapin. Listen, enjoy, and share with your friends and family
