France continues to support the Philippine animation industry as it participates in Animahenasyon, the annual animation festival organized by the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI) Now on its 8th year, Animahenasyon showcases original animated works by both aspiring and professional animators in the country through a competition at the iAcademy in Makati City. 3 French institutions - the Embassy of France to the Philippines, the Institut Français, and the Alliance française de Manille - will be part of this year’s edition. France’s participation to the festival this year is the biggest so far from a foreign country. Mr. Jacques Remy-Girerd , an acclaimed French animation director, producer and educator who is known to be one of the pillars of the European film industry, will be flying in from France to share his knowledge, experience, and insights on a variety of topics on the industry. With the theme “Finding a Place for Animation in Cinema,” Mr. Girerd will be discussing the possibility of elevating animated feature films to the same level of commercial success as live-action films. This will be held on November 27, Thursday, 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the 2nd Floor, iACADEMY Auditorium, Makati City. Films from Studio Folimage and from Mr. Girerd will also be screened at the iACADEMY Plaza from November 25 to 27. Participating in Animahenasyon for the first time, Alliance française de Manille will be hosting the screening of “L’enfant au grelot,” which will be followed by a discussion by Mr. Girerd. ACPI envisions itself to become a major contributor to the growth of the Philippine animation community and aims to nurture the passion for animation.
