Franks Friday Fabulous Fitness Tip Is your life balanced? Many of us think balance issues are just important as we age. The reality of it however, balance impacts everything we do. For golfers, tennis players and all athletes good balance increases your skill level and capabilities. Walking, hiking, swimming all require balance. Clearly balance is an important aspect in preventing falls, getting out of your car or a chair. Here are some issues which affect balance which you may not be always aware of. Medications , vision problems , arthritis and other medical concerns play a role in your balance. Lack of muscle strength will create problems regarding your balance. Dominant muscle groups may be impacting this. For example, if you tend to be overly or underdeveloped in the anterior position, your posterior muscle groups will be adversely troubled. Try this simple test. Stand in front of a mirror, look at yourself and slowly raise your right or left leg with your knee up. If you can stay straight up for 10 seconds without leaning to the right or left, you have good postural balance. However, chances are this will not be the case. You will need to work on developing the proper use of all muscle groups. There are many exercises that will create better stability in your overall balance.
