Free OFA Webinar: Barriers to Re-entry and The Effects of Criminal Background Checks on Hiring Ex-Offenders Wednesday, 8/20 from 12-1pm ET. The proportion of people incarcerated has increased and each year an estimated 600,000 men and women re-enter communities with a variety of challenges to economic stability. As returning citizens seek ways to reintegrate themselves into society and into the workforce, the overarching challenge for many, particularly men and boys of color, has become the inability to gain employment because of employers movements toward conducting criminal background checks. Employment remains a significant factor in successfully reintegrating the majority of individuals back into communities and having a sense of self accomplishment and self-worth. Understanding how to improve the potential for increased employment success is important and understanding the impact of criminal background checks provides useful information for programs working with those with criminal backgrounds re-entering communities. Join us for a one hour discussion with Dr. Michael Stoll from the University of California, Los Angeles on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM ET as he examines the topic, Barriers to Re-entry and The Effects of Criminal Background Checks on Hiring Ex-Offenders.
