Freedom isnt free, Freedom isnt free, Youve got to sacrifice, Youve got to pay the price, For your liberty! The words to a song, I sang when I was a part of a group called Up With People in the 1970s. Then I understood them to mean to sacrifice ones life, as many were doing in Vietnam at the time. My Christian teaching affirmed that with Jesus declaration to take up your cross and follow him. I was wrong on both counts. The price we pay in both instances is to be actively engaged in our Constitutional Government and as Christians to carry our devotion to Christ into the public arena. We pursue what give glory to God, we serve him in the example of Jesus Christ, and we participate in government, not as sheep, but as active neighbors with those around us. This requires our full attention and engagement in both faith and society. God favors only that which we can agree on and exercise in a manner consistent with the Great Commandment. The price we pay for freedom on earth, is to love in a manner that gives worth to the Liberty granted us by God, freedom to choose though comes with sacrifice. That sacrifice is that we must know others as we know ourselves, love is not blind, we must see our own flaws, as well as others. It is the only way to establish our common purpose. Religion and Government are both servants of God, established not by him, but allowed to function as servants of his Created Universe. Our function in this is to form agreements and unity that promote that creation. We are to agree, compromise, and maintain unity, not to circle the wagons, take a position and divide to conquer. Be of one mind means to seek the mind of God in all things. When we make heresy, division, sin and self the focus of our thinking, we can never be of one mind. The Cost of Liberty is high, it demands a life from each of us, the full sacrifice of others, both in uniform or not, is an inspiration that must move us to understand the Liberty of both earth and of Heaven. Be not conformed to this world......
