Freeway Update From KUZZ News: As of 10:30am, CHP still has no estimate for when SB Hwy 99 coming into Bakersfield will reopen. It closed at 4am after an oil tanker crashed and burned at the HWY 65 over-crossing. Only the NB lanes of Hwy 99 reopened at 7am. The backup on SB 99 extends from 7th Standard Road to Lerdo Hwy, perhaps longer now that there are more cars on the road. Alternate routes from the north include Lerdo Hwy west to Hwy 43, then south on Santa Fe Way to Rosedale/northwest Bakersfield, OR Lerdo east to Hwy 65 south...but the latter choice still puts you north of the closure. From there, take Golden State Hwy south to Olive Drive, or head east to Airport Drive in Oildale, then due south until you pick up the 99. SuzG.
