Friday Fitness: providing information and strategies to promote health People are more likely to stick with regular exercise if they are able to measure their progress. The facts: One component of fitness is aerobic endurance. Aerobic endurance is the ability to perform repetitive movements for a prolonged period of time. Better aerobic endurance is associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death. Before beginning any form of training or a regular exercise regimen it is a good idea to get a baseline reading (or your current fitness level). To test your baseline aerobic endurance level you should pick a specific route of a set distance to walk/jog/run. Some examples of a route could be a few blocks around your house or a loop or two around a local track. The first day of you fitness regimen you should walk/jog/run the route as fast as you can. Then to test yourself to see if your fitness level is improving you should do the same route as fast as you can every month to two months. As your endurance improves, the time it takes to complete the route should decrease. Over the next few Fridays the four remaining components of fitness will be discussed.
