Friday January 9th, USA Mississippi & Alabama WestPoint Mississippi - Pickensville Alabama (camping behind town hall/fire house) Distance:69.76km connect.garmin/modern/activity/672436921 Had two speeding cars nearly collide next to me today, the one driver was oblivious to this, the other was ran off the road, down quite a severe ditch, he and his passenger are alive more due to luck than judgement. The only person at the scene who actually stopped was myself-the only one of us not directly involved in the incident. The car that came off the road began attempting to overtake the car infront of him just as that driver noticed me in the shoulder and without checking his mirrors pulled over to give me room. Quite disturbing really. The car in the ditch wheel spun a few times then climbed back on the road and drove off as if nothing had happened! I reached Alabama today, home of the fictional character Ive repeatedly been compared to the last couple years - Forest Gump. Thank you to The local police/fire officer Gerry for arranging permission to camp in the centre of town on the Town Hall grounds. The nearest campsite was 2.5 miles west of town and wouldve entailed 5 wasted miles toing and froing. Something my legs couldnt muster after a hard days run. Ive realised today that Ive been in winter a long time now. Almost 5 months. For the last 4 months Ive been hearing how itll be warmer down south unseasonable cold snaps keep following me! I only have a few more days running and I run out of further south I hit the Gulf of Mexico/Florida this coming week. Thats enough typing in the cold.. And I need my sleep.
