Friday afternoon update: scattered, but heavy downpours have - TopicsExpress

Friday afternoon update: scattered, but heavy downpours have popped up across our area with very humid air in place. My biggest concern is that they are slow-moving and can drop a hefty amount of rain causing localized flash flooding. We currently have 2 flash flood warnings in Atlantic County & along the Kent/New Castle border. This should last into the early evening, but calm down after sunset. Then we await a plume of rain developing in the Carolinas for the pre-dawn hours of Saturday into the late morning. This is when we see our most widespread and active period of the weekend. Rainfall in Philadelphia is probably around ½ to 1 with this, but eastern Jersey along the shore sees 1” to 2”. In the far NW suburbs: under ½”. So, the heavy rain is centered around the Jersey Shore---not great news for vacationers. We will dry out a bit in the afternoon, but it will still be muggy with a lot of clouds. Then, another chance of instability showers and thunderstorms come Sunday afternoon.
