Friends, 23% CHILD POVERTY IN ABERDEEN. I am sad and ashamed to post this. But it serves to remind us that we must work together to eradicate Child Poverty. Child Poverty in Aberdeen is 23%, Aberdeenshire 9%. Both figures are dreadful. Barry Douglas is the Aberdeen FC Pastor and is horrified by what he’s found in the four weeks since the initiative was launched, particularly on his own patch, Seaton. He said last night: “More and more people are coming through our doors as word is getting out about what we’re doing – we’ve seen dozens of people. "The majority have had their benefits delayed for one reason or another. We are basically filling the gap and offering support, guidance and food, between them applying for benefits and eventually receiving the money. “It’s been horrifying seeing the different types of people who’ve approached us for help.” Barry said that a husband and wife turned up after the man had a heart attack and was forced to give up work. He’d never claimed benefits in his life and was trying to make ends meet as he waited for the paperwork to get sorted. " Vote YES for Independence and we will eradicate Child Poverty.
