Friends & Family & Extended friends—I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and encouragement for each and every one of you. Thank you for sharing my post on your own Facebook news feeds. Many people have asked how today this came about which prompted me to broadcast this news. A classmate of mine had posted a photo of Robert William Hunt with a congratulatory salutation for the celebration of his sixtieth year ordination in the priesthood. Missionaries-of-the-Precious-Blood-Cincinnati-Province/199797412107 Until yesterday, I had not laid eyes on this man who had molested me since the crime occurred when I was but fifteen years old; the summer between my Freshman & Sophomore year. It was a long carefully plotted and devised maneuver which destroyed my families church life. While I was somewhat caught off guard, I was also prepared to come forward and share my families story. Many of you, we grew up together on the same street, same neighborhood, and attended twelve-years of Catholic education together between St. James the Less Bison Alumni & St. Francis DeSales Alumni. Our families were interwoven in a very unusual fashion according to todays standards. Im sure to many of you this news came as a shock but sadly, no surprise. My wish was to break our silence for God has not given me nor you a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind. [II Timothy 1:7]. I invite each of you into the conversation. We must not be bullied into silence by reason of threats to our welfare or status. A familys good name is not reason enough to protect a child from public scorn in exchange for the years of despair and hopelessness that place such a child in bondage. Some of you have reached out to me in concern, for my present well-being thinking perhaps that this was difficult for me to offer out in such a public forum. Actually, it is possibly one of the more healing choices I have deliberately charged and the occasion was ripe. What has come thus far from exposing this untold truth has been the support that was missing thirty-five years ago from the church body. I wanted to set the record straight. We were robbed of our joy and our church family. But God is good, not only good but Mighty! We serve a glorious and merciful God whos hand has rested upon my life and carried me for many years. I sincerely thank you for all your compassion and sincerity, which I never quite imagined. You cant have any idea how deeply meaningful your words have been a blessing to me. I wish the church well, I charge the men to step up and be the leaders you were created to be. Protect your daughters and sons for we are all a child of the King. Let us not fail one another, ask for accountability. Seek it out for it will not look for you. We must walk through the fire —our Father in heaven has prepared those steps and He is in control. God causes all things to work together for HIS good. Prosper your lives with hope and vision and healing. Take heed to the failings of ordinary men and ourselves. Not one of us has a flawless life. This fracture in the Catholic church must be repaired. It may only be repaired in lovingkindness, accountability, discipline and forgiveness. That which you cannot muster, is the very reason your Lord, our Savior Christ Jesus came to bridge our broken relationship with our Creator, Father. Seek Him and you will Find Him. He ran for me as the prodigal father ran for his prodigal son. I have rested in his eternal promise and loving arms not by my own accord but by the love and support of brothers and sisters of the larger church body. Mankind will always be broken, take this opportunity to check your heart and bring yourself into relationship with God. May He bless you and prosper you, and your house. I wish you peace and love.
