Friends: The NEH made the New Concord Ohio Chautauqua program possible. A modest award from the NEH made it possible for me to finish my book, and brought the project to the attention of presses who might not have otherwise considered publishing it. I have donated thousands of volunteer hours to a number of projects that were started with very modest amounts of NEH seed money, and I have seen dozens of other civic-minded persons do the same. I have also seen NEH seed money bear fruit in the form of general matching donations from private individuals and local companies. The very modest amount of tax dollar money the NEH receives goes to fund projects that have multiplying effects, fostering precisely the kinds of public-private community cultural projects that every American, Democrat or Republican, can feel good about. Please consider writing to your Congressperson and urging them to restore the funding of this invaluable agency. Thank you.
