Friends are like a row of connected test tubes: if liquid overflows in one tube, the excess flows into the other tubes until there is an equal amount of liquid in all the tubes. Likewise, if u live with corrupt people, they ll take away many of ur good deeds, and u ll decrease and decrease and decrease until u are all equal in status. You ll definitely end up like these interconnected test tubes. A group of friends are all like each other, and the longer the friendship lasts, the closer the character and manners of each person in the group ll be 2 the others. Do not believe dat a good person can live 4 long with a corrupt person, unless the corrupt person improves and follows the example of the good person. This is why u should look 4 the good people, and a friend is like a chain: he ll either drag u into Paradise or drag u into Hell. He ll either cause u problems or he ll help u solve ur problems! After dis, work on guarding ur tongue, because most of the torture in Hell is because of the tongue: And will people be dragged on their faces into Hell because of anything other dan wat their tongues hv brought forth? After dis, work on making good use of ur time. Do not waste ur time. Always try 2 bring abt some benefit frm ur social gatherings. So, if u see people talking abt food, drink, telling jokes, etc., tell them: Guys, I read a story 2day 2 tell u abt something dat happened in Syria, or something dat the Salaf did, or say: Wat do u think abt dis hadith? I read the tafsir of dis verse 2 tell u abt, etc. Benefit them in dis gathering, and occupy them with something dat ll benefit them. Sit down 2gether and read the Qurâan, read the biographies of the Prophet and the Companions, a simple explanation of the Qurâan such as Tafsir al-Jalalayn – a simple, general explanation – and read a simple book of Fiqh, especially regarding hw 2 pray. Read the entire section on hw 2 pray, such as Fiqh as-Sunnah. Read in detail hw 2 make wudu, because it doesnt make sense 2 sit 4 thirty years not knowing the proper way of making wudu, performing prayer, etc. – u pray while not knowing the fundamentals of the prayer and wudu, and u do not knw the details of optional fasting, etc. So, do all of dis combined with good friends and a pure, truthful intention. And stay away frm women (and likewise, women should apply the same 4 men), as dis is the source of all tribulation 4 those at our age, and in fact 4 those at any age. Stay frm women who are 4bidden 4u. It is an obligation 4u 2 stay away frm them. It is 4bidden 4u 2 look at them, it is 4bidden 4u 2 sit with them, it is 4bidden 4u 2 chat with them, and it is 4bidden 4u 2 be alone with them. The heart cannot bear these things because the glance is one of Iblis poisonous arrows. Whoever lowers his gaze frm wat Allah has 4bidden ll be given a sweetness by Allah dat he will feel in his heart. But 2 look, 2 continue looking, and 2 allow dis arrow 2 strike u in the heart – not just an arrow, but a poisonous arrow dat poisons ur heart – 2 let an arrow strike u day after, dis ll make ur heart weak and unable 2 face the problems of life. This is why u find a person who is drowning in desires 2 be weak-hearted. As 4 the heart of the believer, his heart is strong and he isnt affected by anything. His heart is strenghtened by worship, and therefore does not become scared or shaky. As 4 the heart of the sinner, u see it shaking. Why? Because the arrows hv killed him just like someone who has an ulcer in his stomach and cannot eat because of it. Work 4 Allah and stick 2gether, and the more u work 4 Allah, the more ur souls ll become strong and rise, and u ll ascend rapidly upon the path of those who are ascending 2wards Allah. I advise u 2 recite the Qurâan everyday, because the Qurâan is like water 4 a plant. It is the life of the heart, and the water and life 4 the heart is the Qurâan.
