I urge Senate [SENATOR NAME] to vote NO on Grassley Amendment 1195.” Optional addition points: • Vote No because the amendment would stop immigration reform from the get-go. The amendment delays the launch of the legalization process by requiring effective control and full deployment and completion of the strategies in the bill before even starting the RPI registration process. • This would mean that in the meantime, for however many years, millions of individuals would continue to live in the shadows. There is no reason to hold up the important process of bringing millions of undocumented individuals out of the shadows. • We should not delay in identifying and documenting those who are residing in our country. We are strengthened as a nation by identifying who is here, requiring them to pay fine and taxes, and ensuring background checks are done. Vote No because the amendment is neither necessary nor reasonable. Status: This amendment is pending and may be voted on Wednesday, June 12 as early as noon or 2 pm eastern. What it does: The amendment delays access to the path to citizenship by not allowing Registered Provisional Immigrants (RPI’s) to register until the Secretary of DHS certifies to Congress that she has maintained “effective control” over the entire southern border for six months.
