Friends, lawyers, energy advocates, lend me your ears; I come to fight Austin Energy, not to praise them. The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones; So let it be with Austin Energy. The solar energy companies Hath told you Austin Energy was ambitious: If it were so, it was a grievous fault... Never mind, I thought it would work and Im in the mood to write something creative. I cant make that speech make sense so heres the bottom line: We were out of town for 3 weeks. No power on save the refrigerator running and clocks still plugged in. NOTHING. AC completely off, not just turned to a high temperature. And yet, our reported Kilowatt usage during the time we were away is higher than it was when the house was occupied in December. This isnt an issue of our bill nor costs, Id expect energy costs are higher during the summer months; no, our energy consumption reported by Austin Energy was higher when everything was off rather than when we were running dishwashers, dryers, lights, etc. Something is rotten in the State of Texas. Is there any body that provides oversight of Austin Energy?? How does anyone know if their energy use is being reported and billed properly? Is there any way to hold Austin Energy accountable?? Any advice? Similar experiences? Anyone know of to whom to turn to get an audit of Austin Energy?? Maybe my concern is completely unfounded... can anyone explain how this might be accurate and possible? Weve talked to them and theyre as dodgy as Shakespeares parents; even confronted with the data and question, they simply claim its whats recorded rather than agreeing that something, anything, doesnt seem right. They offered to send an energy consumption specialist to audit our house and make recommendations... gee, thanks.
