Friends, meet Beans! Yes, he surely does have a significant weight problem. Beans came to us when his owner became unable to provide for him financially. As Beans grew larger and larger, his owner knew he could not afford to investigate his medical needs, and asked us if we could take him in. Now look at that face! How could we possibly say no? Beans is a very sweet, 11 year old Beagle who will have plenty of life left to live once his medical care is addressed. He has already been to the vet, and his bloodwork has revealed that he is hypothyroid, as we expected. We see this as great news as it is easily corrected. Beans is receiving treatment for his skin and ears and is starting on thyroid medication. With luck, he will lose weight quickly on medication and a proper, restricted diet. Beans bloodwork also showed he is slightly anemic. This will be rechecked in a couple of weeks to see if it improves with the thyroid meds, and if not, we will investigate it further. As Beans would lie down for extended periods of time at the shelter, and then had difficulty getting up, he has been placed in a temporary home where he will have more activity while he gets healthy and loses weight. Currently weighing in at a whopping 58 lbs, were hoping for some speedy progress for Beans. Once he has gotten to a more appropriate weight and given the all clear from our vets, he will be looking for a new, permanent home. His temporary home tells us he is a super easy dog, low maintenance, and gets along with the other dogs and cats with no issues. We think Beans is just adorable! Donations towards his care are greatly appreciated.
