From 22 entries, 9 projects were recognized at the 2014 Western Australia Lighting Design Awards presented on Friday 17th October 2014, Crown Perth by the Illumination Engineering Society. The quality shown in all the submitted designs was good, but what was it that was the little extra ‘something’ that made them outstanding? ……Perhaps a difficult brief, a technical problem, a tight budget, attention to details, consideration of energy efficiency or just the ‘wow’ factor. It takes some courage to have one’s projects judged by one’s peers, and so to all the entrants, we wish to thank you for all the work involved in to putting your entries forward, and to enable this function to happen. May the more successful entries spur on those who have not succeeded in receiving awards, and to have another go in 2016? We had 7 Lighting Design Awards of Commendation & 3 Lighting Design Awards of Excellence. The Matisse Beach Club in Scarborough won two awards: Matisse Beach Club (Main Space) won a Lighting Design Award of Commendation & the Facade won a Lighting Design Award of Excellence. The Jury described this projects as “Innovative, stimulating, and original,” characterise the dramatic impact this impressive and dynamic lighting has on the visitor to the club.
