Richmond Hill, High School Updates: Photoshop class: Students finished their fashion designs for their clients. Students also created a brand name for their fashion designs. World of Work: Students learned how to be successful during an interview. Students had a mock interview to ensure understanding. I Art in Focus: Students created artwork using one point perspective. Media Arts/Advanced Publisher: Students finished their movie projects and presented them. Students also put their final touches on their art portfolios. Environmental Science: Students in HR6 are discussing Aquatic Ecosystems in which we identify key characteristics in a marine ecosystem and in a freshwater ecosystem. Freshwater ecosystems are composed of Lakes, Rivers and wetlands while marine ecosystems are composed of estuaries, coral reefs and oceans. Aquatic ecosystems perform many environmental functions and support many plant and animal species. Students will discuss each one of these species and summarize why they are in a particular ecosystem using a virtual Venn diagram of hula hoops. Unfortunately, pollution, development and overuse threaten many of these ecosystems. Students will discuss how humans influence these Marine Science: Students in HR1 are discussing Aquatic Ecosystems in which we identify key characteristics in a marine ecosystem and in a freshwater ecosystem. Students will use technology to research background information on biodiversity using science based websites and pull key evidence to support claims discussed in their essays. Biology HR#7: In HR7 students are learning about the human body systems. We organized the body from its smallest elements (The atom) and created a chart that expressed as atoms come together they form larger elements until you create a human body. Students then discussed the immune system and turned each type of cell in the immune system into a cartoon character to recall its function. Biology Lab: Students will be breaking down the Living Environment Regents into Parts in order to comprehend the exam and prepare for what is expected during the Regents. Biology Hr#8: Students are learning about the cell. Students are identifying plants and animal cells and discussing each organelle of the plant and animal cell. When discussing the parts, students will be creating a chart in which we identify the Organelle, draw a picture and then write its function. Character Development: Students will be presenting a trait. For the past two weeks students have been researching a trait and developing a way to teach it to the class. Some students have created PowerPoints others have created handouts and acted as a teacher discussing and defining a trait and then teaching the class about how to be a good example of the given trait.
