From David Marks: Downtown Towson is still a secure place to work, live, and do business, but crime anywhere is unacceptable and we need to do whatever we can to guarantee public safety. In light of recent events in the vicinity of York Road and Burke Avenue, I have created a task force to look at any additional security improvements that can be made to improve public safety in the area at Burke Avenue and York Road. The committee would be small, with a tight turnaround that looks at immediate improvements such as lighting and better education for both residents and students. Sergeant Stephen Fink from the Towson precinct will chair the committee. Other representatives will include Bernie Gerst, Towson Universitys Chief of Police; Paul Hartman, President of the Greater Towson Council of Community Associations; Nancy Hafford, Executive Director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce; and representatives for BGE. I have been in close communication with the County Executives staff and the Chief of Police over the past few days. I appreciate their commitment to public safety, and I believe Sergeant Fink is the perfect person to lead this committee. We are reaching out to the residential neighborhoods in the area, to the Towson Area Citizens on Patrol, to Donnybrook Apartments and Brightview Towson. Chief Gerst will be surveying students. I have also sought input from Senator Jim Brochin and Delegates Sue Aumann, Bill Frank, and Steve Lafferty.
