From Dec. 8-11, the Joint Multinational Readiness Center hosted the NATO Staff Officer / NCO Orientation Course for over 100 assigned JMRC Soldiers. The NATO Orientation course, known locally as “NATO 101” provides students with a rapid, multi-layered overview of NATO, its history and operational framework. According to CPT James Walton, an Observer-Coach/Trainer at JMRC, the course gave him “good tools to speak the language of NATO” and provided a framework on how to “capture multinational interoperability issues learned at JMRC and provide tactical feedback to NATO.” As part of the course, the NATO Special Advisor to the Secretary General for Economic and Security Concerns, Mr. Diego Ruiz Palmer, opened the conference and provided the first day’s lectures. Civilian and military experts provided instruction for the rest of the week. By bringing this course to Hohenfels, JMRC hopes its Observer-Coach/Trainers have a better understanding of the NATO mission and can enhance interoperability with our NATO allies and European partners.
