From Dr. Frank Sibbalds Journal, May 1876 Sunday 28th. Ther. 57 to 80. Beautiful day. Wind variable, almost a calm. I walked about the lake shore in the forenoon. Service at St. Georges in the afternoon. After tea Georgie, Uncle Richie & myself walked about Beechwood. Mosquitoes very troublesome. MONDAY 29 Fine day with a little rain in the afternoon. Ther. 58 to 65. Wind from E to N.E. in the afternoon, cool. I sailed to the bush. Pulled back. Drove to Sutton and Ainslie Hill in the afternoon. Took a pull in the boat after tea, too rough to sail. Tom commenced reading Ivanhoe to me whilst I smoked my after dinner cheroot. It is about thirty years since I first read it so that it is almost like reading it for the first time.
