From Gods Word & Pastor Dean Herring : Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: Thank God for Romans chapter 5 and the 5 much more statements that all apply to grace. Man sat slumped in the courtroom chair. What could he say? He was guilty before God by birth and by choice. He had sinned. Then Law entered the room with a satchel full of evidence that made the character of mans sin specific. The charges were numerous and indisputable - and man became overwhelmed with the magnitude of his offense. It was worse than he had realized. The Law convinced him of his hopelessness. He sat condemned with no defense of his own. Law rested his case. Then Grace stepped forward and for every single charge brought against man, he pointed to Calvary. Paid in full! Grace proclaimed. Through no merit of his own, and by no effort of the flesh, man rose from his chair and walked free. Three time in Romans 5 it is called the free gift. No wonder we sing of Amazing Grace! Jesus paid it all! All to Him I owe! Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow!
