From Ian: My amazing and beautiful wife, Megan, just posted this awesome scripture to her wall and it prompted me to write something Ive been meaning to write for a while now. As always, I hope I dont offend anyone, but here goes: Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. (Psalms 37:4 KJV) It is important for us to remember that when we truly delight ourselves in the Lord and we seek His face and His will in our lives, the things He delights in will BECOME the desires of our hearts. This is the problem I have with name it and claim it preaching. Heres where I run the risk of offending someone, but I believe it to be truth. God absolutely wants us to have prosperity, but its spiritual prosperity first not material. God wont bless us with all the nicest things and a ton of money if all we will do with it in turn is to put it in front of Him in our lives. In other words, He wont bless us by giving us idols. He wont put things in our lives that He knows we will place in front of Him because we lack spiritual maturity. What we have is nowhere near as important as what we do with what we have. I believe this is also the heart of the scripture: But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:6, 7 KJV) God sees your level of spiritual maturity and the amount of joy you have in Him through the way you act with what hes already blessed you with. :-) So when you ask God for a blessing and to give you the desires of your heart, first ask yourself this: are you delighting yourself in what you want, in the blessing itself, or in Him who gives the blessing. :-)
