From Kaitlin Cress As a future educator and community member of Trinidad, I moved back to my hometown to start my teaching career in Trinidad School District # 1, I chose to pass up many opportunities in District 60 and 70 in Pueblo to be apart of my community. Today I received a phone call that I would need to schedule a meeting with the superintendent, this is prior to me already getting placed and getting the okay in March that I would be able to do my student teaching in Kindergarten, so why was this meeting necessary, and with only two weeks away from starting school? I was also told that I would need to teach and participate in grades K-6, during student teaching. After talking to my supervisors at Colorado State University in Pueblo, this is against state laws, all hours are required to be recorded with the same group of students. Also, how would I get the experience needed shuffling through every grade, not to mention create lesson plans in a unit that would be suitable for each grade. My supervisor at CSU-P Immediately pulled me from the district due to the unprofessionalism, they were very concerned about me having a negative experience and only want the best for me. The fact that an accredited university is so concerned about my well-being and teaching experience should say a lot to the district and the community. Not only is this district affecting the education of so many students they are pushing away future educators.
