From Kim at Gaias Cottage: I get a lot of questions about the price of essential oils. There are several factors that go into the pricing. One has to do with purity of the oil. If you go with a company that adds synthetics or preservatives, you get a cheaper product. Its also one that doesnt work as well, and certainly one you wouldnt want to ingest. Young Living oils are all 100% pure without any additives. Another factor in price is availability. Frankincense trees are mostly grown in Oman and Somalia. Helichrysum is primarily found in Bosnia and Croatia. Getting oils from countries where politics and war are factors affects the price. The last factor to look at in pricing is the amount of plant matter required to produce a bottle of oil. Lemon oil is inexpensive because lemons are plentiful and the oil is extracted from the rind part of the fruit. Rose oil is perhaps the most expensive oil available because of the sheer number of rose petals required to produce a single bottle of oil.
