From Meteorologist Mike Hoffman WNDU: OK, Ive seen several pictures of funnel clouds, and they are actual funnel clouds. Since the atmosphere is NOT set up for anything violent, we do not expect any of them to touch the ground, which means we do not expect any damage. I would suggest these are probably what are sometimes called a land-spout...sort of like a waterspout over land. In the unlikely event one would touch the ground, it would be more like the strength of a waterspout and not do much damage. But, again, that appears unlikely at this time.
