From November 20-23 at Kannon Dance Dance House, dancer and instructor Anna Ozerskaya will conduct master classes in contemporary style. In 1999, at the age of 14, Anna began training at Kannon Dance under the tutelage of Natalia Kasparova as well as foreign choreographers. In 2000, Anna joined the main troupe of Kannon Dance, with which she toured in Russia, the USA, and Europe. In 2010, she became a member of Israel’s Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company. Last year, she joined Skona Dance Group in Sweden. For the past several years, Anna has been actively involved in teaching, conducting classes in Russia, Israel, the Ukraine, Switzerland, and other countries. On November 22, three works will be shown in the Black Box Theatre. At 15:00, there will be a performance of “The Art of Movement/Stereoscopic Dance.” An essential element of this project, the work of Billy Cowie from Great Britain, is the participation of dancers from the host country. 3D technology has been employed in the work’s creation, enabling the audience to experience the sensation of a direct connection with the dancers. This project was first presented in Russian by Kannon Dance at the 2014 Open Look Festival on the new stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre. At 20:00, pieces by the resident artists of Kannon Dance Dance House will be shown. Two generations of pioneers of modern dance in Russia—Sasha Kukin and Alexander Chelidzi, the latter a professional dancer taking his first steps as a choreographer—will present their works. The Sasha Kukin Dance Company will perform Freedom, with music by Steve Reich, Trent Reznor, and the group Plaid. Sasha says of his work, In one sense, one wants to see dance as free, that is to say, natural, easy, and effortless. This is when addressing technique and execution. But there is another aspect to freedom in dance. It lies in the relative balance between chaos and order, improvisation and text. Alexander Chelidzis Breath Between Walls is composed of three short works. The uniting theme is one of complete loneliness and internal isolation. People themselves erect the barriers which interfere with interpersonal communication and which prevent the realization of dreams, locking them permanently into a predetermined course. On November 23, a video presentation of Kannon Dance’s best works from 2005-2010 will be held in the Black Box Theatre at 16:00 and 18:00. At 17:00, Kannon will host a Meet the Artist event offering a chance to speak with its choreographers and dancers and hear from them directly about current trends in contemporary dance.
