From September 2014, I will write a monthly column for Hluma Magazine. My first task in this series of columns is to talk about leading yourself first before you lead your family and community. Leading oneself is premised on an important aspect of leadership we need very urgently in our society integrity and ethical leadership. The epistle of Apostle Paul to his protégé, Timothy (1 Timothy 3:1-12) lays a great foundation for integrity and ethical leadership. Below are some of the principles mentioned explicitly or implied therein: Leaders must be blameless; Committed to one spouse; Must be sober; Of good behaviour; Given to hospitality; Apt to teach. There are a number of other traits from the scripture including being free from addictions, non-violent, not greedy, one who rule their house well, experienced and competent, good reputation and single-mindedness among others. I hope this series of articles will enrich you and you will become a better leader over time. - Reach for the top, the bottom is overcrowded!
