From: The Wildlife Preservation Coalition of Eastern Long Island [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, March 10, 2014 2:04 PM Subject: Update about Stop Long Island Farm Bureau/USDA Stealth Plan To Brutally Slaughter 5,000 East End Deer on Change.org As most of you know, the L.I. Farm Bureau and the USDA conspired to bulldoze eastern L.I. towns into a plan to slaughter 5,000 deer. As a result of legal action and unprecedented local opposition and reaction against the cull, we have managed to prevent the slaughter in all towns, except Southold. The battle continues and the DEC has been temporarily stopped from issuing more DDP (Deer Damage Permits). Please donate to help fund our legal campaign to stop the DEC and end this slaughter! bit.ly/1d33s4o (see more info below). UPDATE: From: BillCrain@aol , East Hampton Group for Wildlife The court in Albany has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) that prevents the DEC from granting new permits for the Southold, L.I. deer cull until March 28, when the cull issue returns to court. Congratulations to the Wildlife Preservation Coalition of Eastern Long Island for this major accomplishment. The vigil is still planned for tomorrow, Saturday, March 8, at 1 PM in front of the Southold Town Hall. The purpose is to express our deep sorrow over the deer that have already been killed and to reaffirm our determination to do all we can to protect these wonderful, defenseless animals. Newsday says the DEC has issued 12 permits that can still be used. Southold Town Hall 53095 Main Road Southold, N.Y. 11971 Driving Directions to Town Hall Long Island Expressway (495) East to the last exit ( 73). In the Hamlet of Southold, the roadway takes a sharp curve to the right, there is a church situated on the outside corner. Town Hall is located 2 buildings from the corner of Main Road (route 25) & Horton’s Lane. It is a white one-story building located on your left. The entire trip should take approximately 45 minutes from the Expressway. The vigil is sponsored by the East Hampton Group for Wildlife and the Wildlife Preservation Coalition of Eastern Long Island.
