From There to Here (Love in Action) For 8 years, i was involved with a group called Food Not Bombs in San Francisco, Ca. We fed the homeless organic, vegetarian food every evening in front of the govt building and were arrested over 3000 times for feeding without a license, when in actuality there was no process to get a license. The heartlessness of the govt. was quite apparent. Out of all those arrests, only one person went to trial. It was harrassment. i got to know the homeless and see how they were individuals often suffering in a similar way, but actually not monolithic, but rather, each unique. How they were the same, is that they had no one to help them, when the moment came to pay the rent and they didnt have the money to do it. Finally, I had had enough. The citizens of SF, never stood up for us, except a handful. It was a great experience for me, I met many wonderful people and developed a lot of compassion and understanding. I stood face to face with police in riot gear and practiced non violence. It was a courageous period for me as I would never permit violence to occur in my presence and put my body in between violence when it was about to happen, and never got hurt. I used our truck which we used to gather the food and bring to the plaza, after we cooked it, to create a moving and hauling business which kept me in money and gave me lots of free time as well. Finally around 2000, circumstances beyond my control, made me rich and I had the opportunity to do whatever I want, unhampered by the enslavement that comes when one needs to always find money. I could follow my dreams. But what were my dreams? I didnt even know. However, clarity finally came and now I am living in Vilcabamba, Ecuador in a mostly latino, clown/ artist eco community that I founded in dec. 2011. This is after living 5 years in one on the border of Holland and Germany. In 1998, I had the realization that low tech or hi tech self sustainability was what the world needed to hedge against collapse and disaster and that if the world had this, when the collapse came, it could more easily move into a new paradigm. I created a website at that time to help people know how to do it, and collect information, which lead almost immediately to being nominated as a finalist in a prestigious IT competition in Stockholm. I couldnt believe it, because the project was only 2 years old and it had such a long way to go. I didnt win, and the project went defunct because google had developed to where you could ask it any question and get tons of answers and that undermined the need in a lot of ways of the website, though it still is a good idea, but I lost interest. So, now i am actually living the idea here and it is incredible. Everyone who came to be here is a wonderful person. We are living the new paradigm where everyone gives generously from their heart. We hardly have any rules at all, as we all share the same attitude to make this the best possible life we can. Conflicts are virtually non existent, aggressive language is completely absent. Joy is abundant. Children are free and play without strife all the time, the parents have set up a wonderful alternative school for them in the mornings. Possibilities are endless. In the near future, we will add a healing arts center to provide support to cancer patients with alternative modalities and with the plants that we grow here, all based on donations. Also, a circus school for children in the valley is in the works with the goal of creating a high quality childrens circus, these classes also will be for free. I am not writing this to solicite people or anything, because they come without solicitation as though the Universe has sent them, and supports us unconditionally, only lovely, talented people without major issues. You can see us on FB group, Shambhalabamba. Thanks for reading, if you got this far. If you have any questions or would like to know more, I will be happy to answer you. Love is definitely the answer, the heart can always open more and more. Living the dream is the way to live and I have discovered that I have lots of dreams to live. https://youtube/watch?v=upfmH_j88Tw&feature=youtu.be
