From West Midlands Police: I am forwarding this message on behalf of West Midlands Police regarding a demonstration that will be held by the English Defence League The English Defence League will hold a demonstration in Birmingham on 20 July between 1 pm and 4 pm That demonstration will take place in Centenary Square There will be a counter demonstration at the same time in Chamberlain Square There will be an additional 1000 police officers in and around the city centre that day to manage to events There will also be a significant number of local police officers on duty in and around the city West Midlands Police are asking worshippers and leaders within all of our mosques to dissuade anyone from attending the city centre that day who may seek confrontation with others Lets work together to allow peaceful protest at both squares and ensure that everyone remains safe.
