From a thread: Back when Elizabeth Warren was first running for Senator against the incumbent Scott Brown, Sheila and I attended one of her fund-raisers. I remember thinking that you could see right away that she was definitely not a polished politician. She wasnt the typical smooth, oily, smiling hail-fellow-well-met that we expect to see in our politicians. But she was genuine. There was no doubt in anyones mind about that. And that worried me. Was that enough? There wasnt any of the soaring rhetoric that another freshman Senator became so famous for. But she was genuine. You knew she was telling you the truth the way you know a schoolteacher is telling you the truth. You also knew that she wasnt just talking. She was telling you important things that you and all other Americans really needed to know. She was telling you things that she absolutely believed herself. She was genuine. I came away from that fund-raiser not awe-struck, but very impressed. I remember thinking, If only we had more like her. She was, in my mind, worth a thousand Scott Browns -- whom she defeated handily despite a typically dirty, attack-ad, GOP-style campaign waged by Brown. My other memory of that fund-raiser is that I remember thinking that she had the potential to become president some day. As we were driving home, Sheila actually made that remark to me: She could be president some day! I nodded in agreement. Anyway, read the article. If you dont understand why so many people think so highly of Elizabeth Warren, Charles P. Pierce is here to help.
