From another thread: For those up to it, Dzogchen offers - TopicsExpress

From another thread: For those up to it, Dzogchen offers another way, a completely other way from the gradual yanas and methods of shamatha and mind training. Instead we find it is not necessary to tame the mind or attain calm abiding first. That is the gradual method of Mahamudra. Its a good way too. But in Dzogchen the master points out the Mind of Clear Light that is present during the coarsest states of mind as well as during states of calm. In this way it is discovered that the coarser states of mind do not block rigpa and therefore do not have to be pacified first before recognition. Otherwise practitioners are always attempting to alter their current states of mind for a more peaceful state. Its not noticed that the one attempting to pacify the mind is itself the minds turbulence in action. In Essence Mahamudra and Dzogchen, we leave the mind exactly in its current condition with no effort to pacify, transform or correct the current mental state. Instead we rely on the wisdom insight that differentiates the always present rigpa from its coarser derivatives without requiring their cessation. This way we are free in all conditions and all conditions then have the same taste or are seen to be equally empty without requiring further emptying or modification. We only attempt to tame the mind because we havent recognized the already empty nature of the mind. Through the wisdom insight of rigpa we see all existents and obstacles to be mere empty conceptual designations. In this case emptiness is realized and a very profound peace and calm abiding ensues that are the intrinsic and uncaused qualities of nirvana itself. ~Jackson Peterson
