From everyone in this branch, Id like to offer solidarity to our friends and comrades in Dundee who will be taking strike action tomorrow over the loss of FTAs in their branch. Weve obviously spoken about this on here in reference to our own branch, but as a reminder - HMRC is making trained & experienced staff redundant, whilst recruiting completely new staff for the same type of work in other parts of the country. PCS welcomes new recruitment to the department, but not at the expense of existing staff who wish to stay. PCS also wonders how much money the department is wasting in doing this - and PCS also has to wonder if even the department knows its in the wrong now and simply doesnt want to lose face by reversing its decision. And of course, these pointless redundancies and loss of expertise are against the backdrop of the departments costly flexible resourcing exercise, its abhorrent workfare plans, it massively expensive overtime bill and of course, the recently published government stats which showed that during the summer, it was failing to answer an average of almost 100,000 calls per day. And thats when we werent on strike... All the best to Dundee Branch in the fight - HMRC must improve!
