Please keep sharing it widely. Click here to see a video about Steves story One of the most compelling and important cases against GM crops is currently happening in Western Australia where an organic farmer is fighting to protect his right to grow GM-free food - and ultimately our right to choose what we eat. Steve Marsh lost his organic certification on most of his land and most of his premium income after it was contaminated by Monsantos GM canola grown on a neighbouring farm. The GM licence agreements indemnify Monsanto and thus Steve had no choice but to sue his neighbour. This is a huge failure of the legislation in Australia that did not protect farmers who are contaminated. The trial is scheduled to start on February 10 next year in the Supreme Court of Western Australia. This will be the first case in the world of an organic farmer losing income and fighting back against GM contamination from a neighbouring farm. Pro-GM industry groups are blaming the organic standards for Steve’s loss and if GM contamination was allowed into organic food, this wouldnt have happened in the first place! Currently the best way to ensure that the food we eat is GM-free is to buy organic but if the Court decides that the organic standards are unreasonable, we will no longer have a right to eat GM-free products. There will be no guarantee that products grown in Australia are GM-free. The cost of GM-free products will rise if non-GM farmers have to pay for the cost of contamination. Eventually, GM-free crops may be a thing of the past due to long-term contamination. Support Steve! – Donate Here We cant let this happen! We need to stand by Steve before it is too late and do everything in our power to help him present the strongest case. Please make a donation big or small – to support this landmark case which affects us all. Yours faithfully, Bob Mackley (grain farmer, Vic), Janette Liddelow (grain and sheep farmer, WA), Fred Haskins (farmer, NSW), Start a petition
