From my blog: samkingtv/news/yearofkindness 2015 #YearOfKindness January 1, 2015 Happiness. Thats a tough one. Its something you have to work on. And its not always so easy to find it, but its not impossible. LIke many other artists, I struggle with bouts of depression and sometimes have a hard time getting myself out of it. The holiday season tends to be particualrly tough. Its never easy being the depressed person in a room full of people celebrating. And all the holiday chaos just makes me want to curl up and hide. I may seem like an extrovert professionally, but Im actually quite an introvert in my personal life. Dont get me wrong, I will talk to anyone....err any one person at a time pretty much anywhere. I like doing that. But I dont like big crowds or parties, and the idea of going somewhere to meet a bunch of strangers makes me nervous. This may sound strange to people whove seen me perform for large audiences, but you have to understand that thats not how you normally meet people. Its not like I always get to go on stage and sing for everyone before Im introduced. Its easy to be confident when you have the whole rooms attention and when people are there for you. But for me, off stage time is my time to be alone. And quiet. But alone and quiet doesnt need to equate to unhappiness. Its up to us to stimulate happiness in ourselves and others. I started thinking about what brings me happiness and one of the first things that came to mind was kindness. Someone once pointed out to me that doing somethig nice for someone doesnt just bring joy to the receiver or the giver. It can actually bring just as much joy to someone who witnesses it. I have experienced this and I always feel inspired by it. In my life, one of the things I enjoy most is doing things that make people feel good. A lot of times, its for people I know and care about, but I particularly like quiet moments of kindness to strangers. Times when its clear that theres nothing to expect in return but the satisfaction that the other persons day got a little better. So starting today, January 1st, 2015, I will share my daily moments of kindness and tag them #yearofkindness. I hope it will inspire other people to share experieneces. You dont always have to be the giver or evern the receiver. After all, the more witnesses there are, the happier we can all be. By the way, today the nice man at the falafal stand gave me a free cup of hot tea to warm me up. His smile told me it made him happy too. #yearofkindness https://youtube/watch?v=3VKxlpYl924
