From my friend Sara: Some of you will have seen this before, most of you wont have! Some of you remember me as a film maker, most wont! For the first time in almost ten years, I am putting on my investigative boot and going back to making documentaries - at least this documentary. From the beginning of the Scottish Independence campaign, something extraordinary began to happen. The facade of democratic principle in the UK began to crumble publicly when democratic practice failed to get results. Lies, scaremongering, media no longer even pretending to impartiality, increasing panic in the big three political parties, politicians violating the agreements and the law they had written to govern campaigning practice ... these became louder and clearer as millions of people across Scotland began to talk about the political process, to argue, research - and in their hundreds of thousands - to rally for independence. (Recorded by the people themselves because the media either ignored it or showed tiny groups where there was a heaving crowd, dancing, playing music, cheering and waving flags. Most of us know *that* story!) Of course, we lost the vote but something wonderful happened, an awakening of extraordinary power and strength and Scotland will never be the same again. Or did they lose the vote? Amid the many cries of foul, and the evidence captured on camera there is a much smaller and more insidious detail. It concerns duplicate ballots and destroyed ballot boxes. I propose to make a documentary that looks at ALL the ways in which democratic and fair and legal practice, dropped away in the last weeks of the referendum campaign. This includes a difficult and careful investigation of the vested interests and the lengths they were willing to go to, in preventing a yes vote. Its important, too, to show the world what is being born right now, out of the ashes of this loss for supporters of independence. It is a Scotland that many of us have sung about, dreamed about romanticised about but which has never really existed - until now. In my lifetime, I could not have imagined the fierce, loving and united country that is now taking shape. I am asking that you help me to make the film that chronicles all of this either by contributing, by sharing the information with others or by persuading others to contribute.
