From our recent Newsletter.. “May you live in interesting - TopicsExpress

From our recent Newsletter.. “May you live in interesting times” is a much used quotation with different connotations. In the case of people who have cardiomyopathy, to many the interesting part is development in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and cardiomyopathy in particular. It is particularly exciting to see improved concentration on heart disease in recent times. The focus to date on coronary heart failure is extremely important given the number of people affected, however chronic heart disease seemed to have taken a back seat. It is particularly encouraging therefore, to find that the Victorian Government in its recent budget is investing $21.9 million over four years in heart and stroke initiatives that include chronic heart disease. We will be pleased to report similar policy initiatives in other states, as they are important to our membership. The Heart Foundation is also leading the way by developing a national policy statement on systems of care for heart failure. For that purpose it recently convened an expert roundtable chat where I was pleased to represent Cardiomyopathy Australia as a consumer representative. We appreciate the continuing special relationship with the Heart Foundation. We seem to hear on a regular basis of new discoveries in the field of genetics, new imaging and surgical techniques, and new medicines. Our members can access this information through our biennial seminars, guest speakers at our meetings and our newsletters where we also pass on information regarding advocacy on your behalf. Your membership is important. As is the way with families who wish to stay in touch and support each other, the cardiomyopathy family can do so at scheduled or social meetings. Please continue your support by sending your renewal with subscription as provided with this newsletter. You will note that we have kept fees at their previous level. This also provides the opportunity to update your details to ensure correct delivery of information. In the case of life members please send any changes to our P.O. Box or email to [email protected]. We had hoped that our exciting new website which will streamline updates would be operational, but this is taking longer than anticipated - next newsletter? Recently members have staffed Cardiomyopathy Australia information booths at the Heart Foundation Conference 2013 in Adelaide and the Sydney General Practitioners’ Conference and Exhibition. Such publicity reaching a variety of health professionals is invaluable for our organisation. The commitment of time and energy by our volunteers is gratefully acknowledged. Wishing you good health on behalf of the National Executive, Alistair Kerr …... …..President
