From the AMA Morning Report: Still need better treatments for AIDS. Children born with HIV may be more likely to have heart problems later in life. The New York Times (3/4, Mcneil, Subscription Publication) reports that research published in Circulation suggests that kids “born with H.I.V. are more likely to have heart problems later in life, even if they are treated early with antiretroviral” medications. The research, which received funding from the National Institutes of Health, “was based on medical exams of 165 American teenagers born with H.I.V., but is applicable to the three million children in the world living with the virus, said the lead author, Kunjal Patel.”
