From the Department of Health, via my inbox: DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TYPHOON RUBY BULLETIN NO. 1 Health Acting Secretary Janette Loreto-Garin on December 6, 2014 issued the following instructions to Department of Health (DOH) regional directors and chiefs of DOH-retained medical centers in areas expected to be affected by Typhoon Ruby: All pregnant women in evacuation centers expected to deliver within the month should be transferred to the nearest government hospital. For this purpose, the chiefs of DOH hospitals and medical centers are instructed to ensure that their facilities are prepared for this purpose; Evacuation centers should be visited by DOH regional office directors, or their officially designated representatives on a daily basis starting December 6, 2014 until the directive is revoked; Local water, sanitation and hygiene teams should be activated; DOH regional office staff and Nurse Deployment Program nurses must be deployed to evacuation centers and be present in DOH desks 24/7 starting December 6, 2014 until the directive is revoked; DOH desks in evacuation centers must be stocked with medicine, emergency delivery kits, oral rehydration solutions, and other essential supplies; For the abovementioned instructions, the DOH regional directors shall coordinate with the regional directors of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the local government authorities on a daily basis starting December 6, 2014 at 8 AM until the directive is revoked; DOH signage should be visible and all personnel should wear vests or T-shirts with prominent DOH marks at the back of their vests or T-shirts to ensure that evacuees, other government agencies and disaster response partners can easily identify DOH personnel. Daily reports must be submitted to the Acting Secretary of Health, in her capacity as Central Incident Commander, on or before 8 am daily starting December 6, 2014 until the directive is revoked; These instructions are being issued (were issued) to ensure that the evacuees remain disease-free and to prevent the spread of disease.
