From the good people at Support Our Sharks #nocull #lovesharks In response to yesterdays shark bite fatality, the WA Fisheries department have deployed gear to capture the shark involved (goo.gl/OiHtmh). As we all know, this approach is not an effective method to reduce the risk of a shark bite, but is rather an appeasement tactic to satisfy the public that something is being done, rather than an effective shark control policy. The Fisheries department are under pressure to do something and so are simply acting upon a policy that they believe the public want, and the reason the public want it is because they dont understand how to deal with these situations. Therefore, it is important that we better educate people about shark bite incidents and encourage the use of non-lethal shark control policies.
