Equally skilled in throwing a party as well as tuning their ears, Full Time Hobby have invited a generation of artists from their family to perform four special shows, spread between the Southbank Centre and Shepherds Bush Empire, and appear on the brilliantly titled two-disc compilation What The Hell Are You Doing? in honour of the independent label’s 10th anniversary celebrations this October. “What The Hell Are You Doing? It’s something that has probably been asked of anyone starting an independent label over the last ten years,” explains label co-founder Nigel Adams of the compilation’s title. “Certainly there has never been a less financially rewarding or glamorous time to launch a label as the music industry continues to barrel on into the unknown, but for most of us doing it, running an independent label is still the most rewarding, challenging and enjoyable role we could be in.” Inspired by classic independents like Elektra, Sub Pop, Creation and Rough Trade, Full Time Hobby began in 2004 with the aim of releasing music it truly loved and that needed its support.
