Cut through the heart, cold and clear. Strike for love and strike for fear. Theres beauty and theres danger here Split the ice apart Beware the frozen heart. Elsa wiped a tear from her face. Separating herself from Anna was the hardest thing she had ever done, but what else could she do? She had hurt Anna before and she couldn’t do it again. Alone in her room she sat all day, looking out the window, imagining what she and Anna could be doing if she didn’t have the curse. Her fingers suddenly covered the windowsill with ice. Elsa drew her hands back, terrified. “Papa!” She cried. The king and queen rushed into her room and saw the frosted window. The king drew out small gloves out of his pocket. “I was afraid of this, but the gloves will help.” He put the gloves on Elsa’s hands. “Conceal it…” He began. “Don’t feel it.” Elsa finished. “Don’t let it show.” They whispered together. The king kissed Elsa on the forehead, “ Everything is going to be okay, don’t worry.” But everyday Elsa’s power grew stronger and became harder for her to control. She wouldn’t let anyone touch her, not even her parents. She was so afraid. Every night she curled under her blankets shivering, not from cold, but from fear. She was immune to cold but not to her feelings. One night she managed to turn her bed into a block of ice. Unable to sleep, she crept towards her window to look out at the vast sea by Arendelle Castle. But someone was blocking her view. She stared, hardly believing her eyes. A teenage boy was sitting on a staff balanced on the outside sill of Elsa’s window. He had snow-white hair and wore clothes Elsa had never seen before. She couldn’t see his face and she wasn’t sure if she wanted too. Suddenly the boy turned around and nearly fell off his staff when he saw Elsa staring at him. Staring back, he mouthed,” Can you see me?” Elsa nodded, still staring at the boy, her mouth wide open. The boy shot he a quizzical look and motioned for her to open the window. Elsa did this without second thought. The boy jumped into the room, landing with hardly a sound. Elsa looked up at him. He was more than two feet taller than her, but he wasn’t intimidating. He looked right back down at her, his sapphire eyes glinting in the moonlight. Elsa found her voice,” Hello…um…who are you?” The boy seemed to come out a reverie,” Oh…yeah, hi, I’m Jack. Jack Frost.” “Jack Frost?” Elsa repeated in wonder. “Yep,” replied Jack Frost,” What’s your name? “Elsa” She whispered. “Elsa, that’s a lovely name.” Jack said, grinning slightly. “How did you get up on my window?” Elsa asked, she had been thinking about this ever since she saw Jack outside her window. “Flew,” Jack said. “Flew? You can fly?” “With this yeah,” Jack gestured to his staff. Elsa looked at it more carefully. It had an interesting shape. It wasn’t exactly straight; it had a hooked curve at the top. She wondered what he used it for. Jack Frost seemed to finally notice the snowy room behind Elsa. “Did you do that?” He asked. Elsa put her head down and nodded. “It’s amazing!” Jack exclaimed. He examined the walls, looking at the frosty patterns. “Y-You like it?” Elsa asked, surprised. Jack turned to her, his face glowing, “Of course! I never realized someone could be just like me!” “You have powers too?” Elsa gasped. Jack opened his hand and snowflakes flew out of it, circling Elsa like butterflies. She giggled then reached out and touched one. “How do you control it,” She suddenly asked. “What do you mean?” Jack Frost asked, looking confused. “How can you make it stop, do what you want or disappear?” Elsa asked. “Why would you want it to stop?” “Because…because I hurt people.” She said, looking down at her feet. Jack crouched down so his face was level with hers. “Touch me.” He said. Elsa looked frightened,” NO! I can’t! I’ll freeze you…or…or…” Jack took her hand, then put it on his chest and smiled,” See? It’s okay. I think you’re too nice to hurt anyone.” Elsa stared at him with admiration. Jack looked into her eyes and said,” How long has it been since you’ve had proper fun?” “A couple years I guess,” said Elsa, startled by the change of subject. “Then come on!” Jack leapt on the windowsill and held out his hand. “Where we going?” Elsa asked breathlessly, taking his hand. “On an adventure,” He said winking. Suddenly Elsa rose out of the window and into the night sky. Jack was flying! He was taking her with him! She laughed with delight as the trees and mountains skimmed below. Jack lightly put her on his back as they flew. “Watch this,” He said. He raised his staff and swirling winds caught them. Carrying them down to a small clearing in the forest surrounding Arendelle. Elsa leapt off his back. “What do we do now?” Her eyes were sparkling with excitement. “Snowball fight!” Jack conjured a snowball from midair and threw it at Elsa. She giggled and shot snow back at him. They ran around, shooting each other with snowballs, laughing. After about an hour, Elsa fell on her back, exhausted but still laughing. Jack lay down beside her. “See?” He said, “You can control it.” Elsa thought for a moment. Sure she could do things, but she still had hurt Anna, even if it was by accident. Her powers were dangerous, no matter what she used them for. She could’ve hurt Jack too. Elsa sat up, cradling her knees to her chest, “I want to go home.” “What’s wrong?” Jack frowned. “I…just want… I’m tired.” Jack winked,” Okay snowflake, hop on.” Jack Frost carried Elsa back to her window and watched her crawl into her bed. “Come back tomorrow okay?” Elsa pleaded, her eyes shining again at the thought of Jack coming back. Jack winked,” Sure thing princess.” And he flew out into the night. Elsa and Jack Frost became closer and closer. Jack always seemed to know when she needed comfort, fun, and love. Over the years they developed a strong bond between each other. On the end of one of Jack’s visits (he had come because Elsa had been worrying about her parents, who were supposed to be home five days ago), Anna knocked at the door. “Shhh,” Elsa whispered to Jack, “It’s Anna.” “Why keep quiet?” Jack whispered back,” She’s been knocking for years. Why don’t you give it a try? Let her in….” But a circle of ice appeared around Elsa’s feet. “No…” She said,” I’m too scared.” And she covered her face with her hands. Jack put his arms around her and held her tight. Anna spoke behind the door: “Elsa…please I know you’re in there. Everyone’s asking where you’ve been. Our parents…their trip…it went wrong. An ally from a neighboring kingdom sent a message. They…they found the remains of their ship…our flag… They say have courage, and I’m trying too…. I’m right out here for you Elsa…just let me in.” But Elsa had fallen to the ground, ice covering the entire room, frost layered her and Jack. She put her head into her knees and cried. Anna’s footsteps grew faint; she had left the door. “Elsa…don’t cry please…. don’t cry,” Jack said, still holding her, a tear falling down his own cheek, “It’s going to be alright-“ “No,” Elsa sat up and pushed him away,” you don’t understand! Now Anna has no one. I had to put myself away from her to keep her safe, but now she doesn’t have anyone….I can’t help her…I’ll hurt her…this is all my fault.” “Elsa, there is no way you could’ve-“ “They were searching for a cure! For me! They wanted to find something to help …and…and…” Elsa sobbed, “Jack please, just…go away.” “No,” Jack said firmly,” I’m going to help you get through this. I’m not leaving until you’ve stopped crying.” Without thinking, Elsa threw her arms around him and cried into his shoulder, “Thank you Jack, thank you…” * * * * * * * * * * * * Jack sat on a pine tree, staring out from the forest at Arendelle castle, and sighed. Tomorrow, Elsa was to become queen. She was finally 18, of age. He knew she didn’t want to be queen; she couldn’t stand having to think of protecting Anna, and her whole kingdom now. Elsa thought she was a danger to everyone, but she couldn’t just leave her sister. Jack swung his legs, thinking. If only there was some way to let Elsa know that she wasn’t dangerous. It was only one accident and everything turned out all right! He’d been telling her for years that she was special, not cursed, but no matter what he said, Elsa was still frightened of herself and what she could do. Jack had had plenty of accidents and no one seemed to mind. Recently, he had taken a boy sledding down a street and ran into a statue, then a couch crashed into the boy. Of course, the boy and his friends couldn’t see him, so all they cared about was the tooth that had gotten knocked out. Elsa could see him though…. she believed in him. Jack looked up into the big blue moon and asked, ”You brought me here, and you made me… tell me please… what am I supposed to do?” As expected, the moon didn’t say anything. It had only talked to Jack when he had risen out of the frozen pond, only to tell him who he was…nothing else. And there were other matters on his mind… * * * * * * * * * * * * Elsa looked out the window and took a deep breath. Crowds of people were flooding in from the first gate, all looking excited. “Don’t let them in…” She whispered,” Don’t let them see.” She walked over to the portrait of her parents. “Be the good girl, you always have to be…” She recited, “Conceal don’t feel, don’t let it show.” Elsa took off her gloves and picked up an ornament and candelabra for practice, but as soon as she touched them, frost began to cover the items. It’s only for today, she thought, putting her gloves back on with a sigh. There was a clatter from her window and she turned around. “How’s it going snowflake?” Jack asked, winking. Elsa smiled; Jack was the only one who could make her feel relaxed. “Hi Jack.” “So…” Jack flew over and sat down on the table beside her and glances at the frost covered candelabra and ornament,” not going well then?” Elsa sighed again,” I don’t know if I can do it Jack…” “We both know you don’t want to anyway Elsa…” “Jack I know what you’re going to say, but…I just…have to do this.” Elsa said, turning away from him and looking up at her parents again, “They would have wanted this…it’s my birthright…” “Being shut inside and taught to fear yourself?” Jack interrupted, his voice rising. “I know you better than this…just let it go Elsa, try to just be yourself! For once in your life don’t be ashamed of who you are!” “Jack! Please, you don’t understand!” Elsa cried, turning back around and facing him,” You’ve never known how I’ve felt…what I’ve gone through..” “How could I not know?” Jack shouted, “I’ve been by your side, helping you through it all! I’ve listened to you! I’ve been alone all my life too! No one can see me except you! Don’t you think I know what you’re thinking! I’m the same, it’s just you don’t want to-“ “ENOUGH JACK!” Elsa screamed, burying her face in her hands. “Oh…Elsa I didn’t mean too…” “Just go… please…I need to tell them to open up all gates.” Elsa said, not looking at him. “I’ll be there…watching… you’ll be okay.” Jack said, regretting his outburst. “I know,” Elsa gave a shadow of a smile,” be at the party though please?” “You know I will.” With that said, Jack flew back out her window. Elsa covered her face in her hands again, why did she have to make a mess of everything? She straightened up took breath and walked towards the doors and opened them saying, “Tell the guards to open up the gates.” She walked slowly, reciting “conceal don’t feel” under her breath, hoping, beyond all hope, that everyone would turn out all right. She followed her servants to the church for her coronation. Elsa wondered where Anna was, though she was probably exploring since the gates hadn’t been opened for nine years… Elsa started, they were now at the church doors, and she hadn’t realized how quickly they had walked. People were flooding around the church, even though not invited to go in. She folded her arms and kept her glove-covered hands covered and tight. Elsa and her servants walked into the church and everyone in the benches turned around; the chorus began to sing. Elsa’s servants took their seats and Elsa stood alone on the aisle. She took a deep breath and walked up it, relieved to see Anna waiting by the priest, where she was supposed to be. Elsa couldn’t see Jack, but she knew he was there somewhere. Elsa bowed and the priest placed the crown on her head. She stood up, knowing what was coming next. She reached for the scepter and globe, but the priest stopped her. “Your majesty.” Elsa looked up at him. “The gloves.” Elsa slowly pulled the gloves off, her pale hands shaking slightly. They shook even more as she picked up the globe and scepter and turned around, holding her breath. Looking up at the chorus, she saw Jack looking through the circular window above. He made a funny face and Elsa almost smiled but she looked down at the scepter and realized frost was spreading over them. As soon as the priest finished the last words, she quickly put the things back on the pillow and yanked her gloves back on, breathing hard, but she had done it. She was queen. * * * * * * * * * * * * Jack took a sigh of relief as he saw Elsa put her gloves back on. All went well, but he still didn’t understand why she had to keep her powers a secret. Elsa told him about her sister many times, but he didn’t think it was a good enough reason. It was just an accident! It’s not like she permanently damaged her, but as Jack flew back to the castle he thought about the boy he had accidentally bit with a sofa…what if something worse happened than knocking out a tooth? Jack landed on the roof and watched the oncoming crowd lead by Elsa to the celebration. Maybe he would think differently if he had a sister or brother he hurt…but he didn’t. Maybe Elsa was right. Maybe he didn’t understand. Elsa entered the castle and Jack slid into the room they had argued and hour before. He waited for her, pacing the room. He wasn’t worried about anyone else coming in. No one could see him but Elsa. To Jack’s pleasure, Elsa came back into the room, breathless, her cheeks flushed. He grinned at her and she ran towards him and tackled him with a hug. She cried into his shoulder and Jack held her tight, “Elsa-“ “I did it Jack,” Elsa looked up at him smiling, “I did it. Everything is going to be okay!” “I told you,” Jack said, trying to smile again, but on the inside he was wailing with despair. Did this mean he could never see Elsa again? Could she not afford fun and love in her world of fear? “I better get down to the party,” Elsa said, releasing him and wiping her eyes. “I’m going down alone, so you can come with me.” She took his hand and led him out the door. They walked down the hall together, laughing and talking, but falling silent whenever a servant passed. They reached the ballroom and entered. “Queen Elsa of Arendelle!” The squire announced and Elsa walked to the front as everyone bowed. Jack followed and stood to her right. “Princess Anna of Arendelle.” Anna walked to the left and waved. The squire placed her next to Elsa on her left. Thinking that Elsa might want some catching up time with Anna, Jack flew to the ceiling and sat on the rafters watching people dance and clap; such a happy celebration for a less than pleased Jack Frost. He wondered if being queen would change Elsa… he had been wondering about nothing else for the past day, but he also had problems of his own. Jack had been “kidnapped” recently by the Guardians. They told him that the moon had chosen him as the next guardian. They said Jack was needed to defeat Pitch Black, but Jack didn’t want to be a guardian. He would have to leave Elsa and he didn’t like the Guardians. They had never taken notice of him before, except for maybe Bunny, but they didn’t like each other anyway. Jack watched as a small and skinny man approached Elsa and asked her to dance…in a weird fashion. His wig drooped and Jack laughed and was please to see Elsa and Anna barely holding their laughter in. The duke took Anna to dance instead and Elsa watched laughing at how the duke danced. Jack took this opportunity to fly back to Elsa. “Looks like you and your sister are getting along,” He said. “Yes… I expected her to hate me after all of this, but… she seems happy.” Elsa said, smiling as she watched Anna dance with the duke. “Are you happy?” Jack asked, taking her hand. Elsa looked up at him,” I’ve never been happier.” Anna came over and Jack let go of Elsa’s hand. “Are you okay?” Elsa asked her sister, giggling. “I’ve never been better…this is so nice! I wish everyday could be like this.” Anna said, smiling at Elsa. “Me too.” Elsa said, then she looked away, “but it can’t” “Why not?” Anna reached out to her but Elsa said,” It just can’t!” and pulled away from her. Anna left. Jack looked into Elsa’s eyes. “Why can’t it be like this? You’re doing well already. Nothing bad has happened.” “But something could happen…oh I don’t know Jack.” Elsa said, looking out at Anna, who was now dancing with a fair-haired young man. “Why don’t you give it a try? You could-“ “I already gave it a try! For seven years Anna knew I had powers and some accident seemed to happen, but that night…was the worst. I could’ve killed her. The troll told me it was lucky I didn’t hit her heart… and I could have.” “But you didn’t! You fail to see that! Nothing bad happened…” “Jack please,” Elsa was on the verge of tears, “please… just stop.” Jack fell silent but continue to gaze at Elsa. She looked so beautiful; her white-blonde air reflected the candlelight and her blue eyes shimmered. Anna had come back over and was dragging the fair-haired man with her. “Elsa!” Elsa turned around. “I mean…queen,” Anna curtsied awkwardly. Jack flew up to the rafters again. He watched as Elsa and Anna talked. Elsa seemed confused and displeased about something. Now they looked like they were arguing. “Oh no,” Jack whispered, for Anna had grabbed Elsa by the hand and ripped off her glove. “Elsa please, I can’t live like this anymore!” Anna cried. Elsa looked heartbroken but said, ”Then leave.” She turned to walk away but Anna screamed,” What did I ever do to you?” “Enough Anna,” pleaded Elsa, still walking towards the doors. “NO! Why do you shut me out? Why do you shut the world out? What are you so afraid of?” Anna yelled. “I SAID ENOUGH!” Elsa flung her self around and ice flew from her ungloved hand and spiked up, separating herself from the guests and nearly catching Anna. Elsa looked terrified. She flung open the door and ran. “Elsa!” Jack shouted and flew after her. * * * * * * * * * * * * Elsa burst out of the front doors and to her horror; a huge crowd was waiting for her. Seeing her, they all burst into applause. She looked back and saw people running towards her from the ballroom. She heard people outside yelling something to her, but she ran and dodged through them. “Queen Elsa!” “Our beautiful queen!” Elsa nearly ran into a woman carrying a baby, “Your majesty, are you alright?” She asked. Elsa backed away slowly but collided with a fountain, she threw her hand out to catch herself and the fountain froze. She gazed up in fear and men were calling to her from the front doors. “Just stay away please. Just stay away-“ But a jet of snow flew from her hands and hit the men. “Monster!” The duke cried, pointing his finger at her from the ground, ”Monster!” Elsa looked around; everyone was backing away from her now, also looking terrified. Blinking back tears, Elsa ran through the now empty path and out the side gates. “Elsa!” She heard Jack and Anna cry, but she didn’t stop. Elsa ran until there was nowhere to go. She had led herself to a dead end. All there was in front of her was the bay and the gate was behind her. She took a nervous step backwards and heard a cracking sound. She gasped and looked down. She was making the water freeze! Elsa cautiously placed a foot to the water and put her weight on it. The water froze and held. “Elsa!” Anna was at the gate. Elsa took off, running across the lake, freezing under her feet. She could hear the cracking of the ice and Anna’s cries, but she kept on running, right to the other side and ran up the hill towards the North Mountain. She kept running until she could run no more. She collapsed on the snow and cried. * * * * * * * * * * * * Jack flew over the frozen bay after Elsa. No, no, no! This couldn’t be happening, he thought. This is my fault! I already pushed her to the limit and she couldn’t take it in. Whatever Anna said was too much. I can’t believe I wouldn’t just let it go, let her decide. He continued to kick himself as he flew around the forest. “Elsa! Please! Where are you?” * * * * * * * * * * * * Elsa lifted her head. No! She couldn’t let Jack find her. She couldn’t hurt anyone else; she had to be isolated, away from everyone. She staggered to her feet and began to run again. If only there was some way to move faster. Jack could fly; he would surely catch up with her if she continued to make this much noise. Her feet crunched in the snow, soaked to the skin, but she couldn’t feel the cold. She never did. * * * * * * * * * * * * “Elsa!” Jack cried, tears running down his face. “Elsa!” He couldn’t believe it. He had lost her. She was gone. Jack yelled with anger and smashed down into the snow, turning it into a splash of ice, making a frozen sculpture. “Poor, poor Jack Frost.” A voice said. Jack started and flung himself around,” Elsa?” * * * * * * * * * * * * Elsa had finally learned to let it go. She had thrown away her crown, built her own castle and stared into the sunrise of a new day. “Let the storm rage on, the cold never bothered me anyway,” She giggled to herself and turned around and closed her ice doors. As she looked around her ice castle, she let out a sigh of relief. She couldn’t hurt anyone her. This was where she belonged: alone. She began to walk down the stairs, still looking at her palace, fascinated of what she was capable of. Maybe Jack was right, holding back didn’t work, but she was still dangerous. Elsa hugged herself; thinking of Jack Frost was too painful. She knew she could never see him again. He probably already hated her. She heard her front doors creak open. “Jack?” She breathed excitedly. She ran down the stairs, her ice shoes clinking against them, but it wasn’t Jack. It was a tall and dark man with a hooked nose. He glared up at Elsa through golden eyes. Elsa took a frightened step back. “Actually, as you can see, I’m not Jack,” The man chuckled. “I’m sorry,” said Elsa, still backing away, “I thought you were someone else.” “Perfectly alright. Allow me to introduce myself your majesty,” He took a long sweeping bow,” I am Pitch Black.” “Sorry?” “Yes…” Pitch Black sighed,” You’ve never hear do me…I won’t pretend I didn’t hope…but to get to the point. I’m a fan of your work. I saw you build this place, saw everything, how you ran away, froze the ocean…” “Y-you saw all of that?” Elsa stopped moving away, “And you like it?” Pitch reminded her of Jack: someone who thought her work of beauty, not danger. “Of course!” Pitch laughed,” You’re amazing!” “Well…thank you. I’m Elsa, queen, or was queen, of Arendelle.” “Yes I know.” Pitch smiled. Pitch Black’s smile wasn’t comforting like Jack Frost’s though. His smile was more of a leer. Elsa continued to back away, slowly moving up the stairs. She wasn’t sure whom this Pitch Black was, but she didn’t like the feeling that she knew him from somewhere. “You don’t know anything about me though…” She whispered. Pitch let out a terrible laugh, still smiling,” Of course I do! I’ve watched you from childhood, influenced your thoughts, crept into your nightmares…” Elsa suddenly recognized him. “You! You-“ She stumbled back and nearly lost her balance. She clutched tightly to the bannister of the ice stairs. “I know what you fear. What you could do to Arendelle, your sister, and your…beloved…Jack Frost.” * * * * * * * * * * * * Jack woke in a crevice in the rocks, not sure how he got there. In fact, he wasn’t sure who he was! Jack looked around terrified. Who was he? Where was he? He put his head in his knees. “Yo! Frost!” An Australian accent echoed in the cold air. “Frost!” Jack looked up to see what was going on. He couldn’t believe was he seeing. A huge rabbit, a chubby bearded man in a red fur suit, a glowing short man, and a feathered lady with wings were looking down at him. “You alright Jack?” The bearded man asked, holding out a hand to help him up. “Am I Jack?” Jack asked, not taking the bearded man’s hand, scratching his head. The rabbit scoffed, “Very funny Frost, now come on, what about Pitch?” “Pitch?” Jack continued to star up in wonder. The feathered lady squealed, “You didn’t knock out a tooth did you?” She flew down and yanked open his mouth. “Ack,” said Jack. She sighed with relief, “Nope, still white and sparkly as ever!” “Tooth, release him.” The bearded man said. Tooth did. The golden man was making gestures with his hands while pictures flew above his head in puffs of sand. The bearded man watched him, ”I think your right Sandy. Something’s wrong. Come on boy,” he held out his hand again. “We can help you.” Jack took it and the bearded man pulled him up out of the small crevice. “Here’s your staff,” Tooth said, handing him a long wooden object. “Um…thanks,” Jack said, “What am I supposed to do with it?” The rabbit suddenly looked worried and turned to the bearded man, “What’s happened to him North?” “I don’t know,” North said, stroking his beard thoughtfully, “We should probably get back to the workshop. We’ve got a problem.” * * * * * * * * * * * * “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Elsa cried, turning away from Pitch. “Don’t deny it,” Pitch snarled, “He’s wanted you to let it go for ages and you’ve never done it until now? Why? I’ll tell you why. You could not bring yourself to hurt him or your sister. You had to become Queen as an excuse not to use your powers, but now…now you’re all alone…” Elsa covered her face in her hands, “Please go away,” Pitch chuckled, “No matter how many times you ask, you still believe I can frighten you. You should’ve listened to your Jack Frost when you had the chance, now he’s never coming back!” Elsa flung around, “What did you do to him?” “Oh nothing serious, after all, you didn’t want him around…” Pitch said as he casually brushed some frost off his shoulder. “Please…if something has happened to him…” “You can’t help him or do anything about it, so why should I tell you?” Pitch smirked and turned to leave, “I will be back, and think of what I said will you?” Then in a swirl of black shadow, he was gone. Elsa fell to the floor and burst into tears, how many more lives must she ruin? Jack, she thought, where are you? I need you. * * * * * * * * * * * * “So, I’m Father Christmas, friends call me North, that’s Bunnymund” the rabbit nodded, “Sandy,” the golden man waved, “and Tooth.” The feathered lady smiled. “Do you remember now?” North asked. Jack scratched his head, “Um…no.” Bunnymund threw his paws in the air,” Well that’s just great, how are we going to fight Pitch now?” North stroked his mustache, “Hmmm, I say Pitch is the one who must’ve done this, but I have no idea how he could’ve gotten the power…” Tooth gasped, “Oh no! The Tooth Palace! Maybe he stole Jack’s teeth!” “What do Jack’s teeth have to do with anything?” Bunnymund asked, evidentially bewildered. “Everyone’s teeth contains memories, Pitch must’ve figure out how to erase the evidence of Jack’s past using his teeth!” Tooth cried, “Oh Jack, I’m so sorry.” Sandy twirled his finger next to his head and smashed his fists together. “Sandy’s right,” North said, “This may seem strange, but if Tooth thinks that Jack’s teeth were stolen, we need to fight to get them back! First, we need to get to the Tooth Palace and check if Jack’s teeth are indeed stolen.” North drew a small globe from his pocket and threw it. A portal burst into being. “Wait…” Jack began. “No time to explain, come on!” North grabbed him and jumped into the portal. Everything was a whirl of color and time, spinning and thrashing around him. When Jack felt like he was going to throw up, it stopped. Jack looked up. A tall and dark man with a hooked nose glared at the Guardians through intelligent golden eyes. “OI! What are you doing here Black?” Bunnymund snarled. “That’s Pitch Black?” Jack asked Father Christmas. He nodded and drew his swords, Sandy cracked his whip, Bunnymund drew his boomerangs, and Jack raised his staff while Tooth balled her fists. “What are you doing here Pitch?” She snarled. “Oh…came to say hello I guess…long time no see…and maybe trade something for Jack’s memories….” Pitch said in a calm voice, as if this was typical friendly conversation. “So you do have my memories!” Jack said, horrorstruck and he lowered his staff. Pitch looked him straight in the eyes, “Yes, would you like a glimpse of someone?” “What do you-“ Then suddenly a force hit Jack so hard he fell to the ground. “Jack! Jack?” He knew that voice, but he couldn’t place whom it belonged to. He saw a beautiful girl with white-blonde hair, crying on a shimmering floor (was that ice?) calling his name. “Jack! Please, where are you? JACK!” “Enough!” Someone roared and there was a flash of blue light and the vision stopped. Jack had sprung to his feet and shot ice at Pitch Black. Now Jack was glaring down at Pitch on the floor. “Who was she?” Jack asked, pointing his staff at Pitch Black’s face. To his surprise, Pitch laughed, “So you do care! Even though you can’t remember, you still care for her?” “Tell me!” Jack yelled. “Looking for this?” Pitch held up a gold cylinder with a picture of Jack on it, but different; his eyes and hair were a deep brown. Jack swiped for it but Pitch and the cylinder disappeared, and then reappeared on a rafter out of reach. “What’s this trade you were talking about Pitch?” Bunnymund growled, ready to throw his boomerang. “Oh ho…now I’ve got your attention,” Pitch bared his teeth, “but for now, I’ll only give you one word. If this means anything to Jack, I suggest you decide what you could trade for his beloved memories.” “Tell us this word Pitch,” North said, lowering his swords. “It’s a name really…” “Then give us the retched name mate! My patience is waning!” Bunnymund snarled. Pitch Black looked at Jack, “Her name is Elsa.” Elsa, Jack thought, he knew that name…he just couldn’t… “Argh!” He yelled and slammed his staff on the floor and fell to his knees. Pitch smirked, “Knew that would ring a bell. Enjoy yourselves, I’ll be waiting for your call.” And with that, Pitch Black disappeared. * * * * * * * * * * * * Elsa still lay curled on the floor, shivering with fear and grief. “Jack,” She whispered, but all the energy and been sapped out of her. She had no more tears left. She moaned and tried to sit up, but her head felt to heavy and she fell back onto the ice. “Thank you Elsa, you were…persuasive.” Said a voice. “No…please go away…” Elsa cried, trying to crawl somewhere, anywhere, to hide from him. “Don’t you see Elsa, I’m never going away. You’re mine now.” “Elsa?” Another voice called, higher and sweeter. “Anna!” Elsa whispered. “You can’t let her stay,” Pitch’s voice snarled in her head, “You will hurt her, just make her go away and stay away. You deserve to be alone…” Elsa stood up and walked back to the front doors, trying to ignore the pounding in her head. “Anna?” and she stepped into the light. There she was, looking up at her, Anna was dressed in winter clothes, smiling up at her sister. Elsa tried to smile back. “Wow, Elsa…” Anna said, “You look…different! It’s a good different I mean... and this place is amazing!” This time Elsa really did smile, “Thank you. I never knew what I was capable of.” “Make her go away…” The voice whispered again. “I’m so sorry,” Anna said, starting to come up the stairs, “If I had known-“ “No it’s okay,” Elsa said, backing away, “but you should probably go.” “But you belong down in Arendelle-“ “No I belong here. Alone. Where I can be who I am… without hurting anybody.” “Elsa please…” “IT’S BEEN A MINUTE!” “What?” Elsa asked startled. A little snowman was running towards Anna and Elsa, “Hi I’m Olaf and I like warm hugs!” “Olaf?” Elsa asked, still confused. “You made me!” Olaf said, “Remember that?” “And you’re alive?” Olaf looked at himself, “Um… I think so?” Elsa looked at her hands. She could bring snow to life? “It’s just like the one we made when we were kids,” Anna said, kneeling down next to Olaf. “Yeah,” Elsa said, smiling again. “Elsa, we were so close…we could be like that again.” Anna said, pleadingly. But something played in Elsa’s mind. She had slipped don ice, Anna was jumping into nothing, “Anna!” she cried, and shot ice but it hit Anna in the head, knocking her into the snow. “You will never hurt her again if you just make her go.” The voice whispered as Elsa cradled Anna’s head in her lap. “No,” Elsa said, coming out of the memory, “We can’t. Goodbye Anna.” * * * * * * * * * * * * “This is crazy! We can’t give someone up for memories!” Bunnymund yelled at Sandy. The Sand Man knew that Pitch wanted him, and volunteered to go to Pitch for Jack’s memories. Sandy shook his finger at Bunnymund, clearly not taking no for an answer. “I say we fight,” Jack Frost said, standing up and swinging his staff around, “We take them back by force.” “I don’t know Jack,” Tooth said, wringing her hands, “That might be what Pitch wants, and it could give him an excuse to finish all of us if we attack!” “I’m not letting anyone be held prisoner for my memories!” “But Jack, you’re the one we need. The world needs you. This Elsa Pitch talked about needs you.” North said, putting his hands on Jack’s shoulders. “I say we go for the attack,” Bunnymund said, “Give’s us a chance to jump at him and show who’s boss.” “The kangaroo’s right,” Jack said, trying not to smile. “What did you call me?” Bunnymund drew him self up, “I’m a bunny!” “Really?” “Enough you two!” North interrupted, stepping between him, but also looked like he was about the laugh. “Maybe we could just try and attack…look diplomatic…try to bargain and if he doesn’t yield…then I guess we should fight.” Tooth said, thinking hard, as her little baby teeth birds zoomed around her head, twittering advice. Sandy nodded his head. “Then let’s go! Outvoted North!” Bunnymund said. “Fine,” North glared, “but we’re taking the sleigh!” Bunnymund’s smile vanished. * * * * * * * * * * * * Elsa could not believe what had happened. She had really messed up this time. She hurt Anna again and she knew this would happen, but didn’t try hard enough! At least her snow guard would keep her from coming back and getting hurt again. I really and a monster, Elsa thought, more tears running down her face. She had been crying for several days straight, off and on. Her fear and sorrow collided terribly with each other, making her insides feel even worse. She had not slept for three days. “Jack…” She whispered, feeling faint. She laid down put her head against the cold floor, and drifted off to sleep. “Elsa!” Jack whispered, patting her on the back. “Jack!” Elsa sat up and rubbed her eyes, “You came back!” “Told you I would Snowflake. Did you think after just one night of fun, you would never have one again?” Elsa leapt up and hugged him tight, ”I’ve never had someone like me as a friend!” Jack smiled and hugged her back. “I will always be your friend, remember that. No matter what happens, I will always find you.” “Darling little Elsa, wake up!” a voice sang darkly. Elsa raised her head and found herself face to face with Pitch Black. She was too weak to even scream. She just groaned and put her head back on the floor. “Don’t you want to hear about my surprise?” Pitch asked, an evil grin crossing his face. Elsa didn’t answer, but closed her aching eyes. “Fine, stop begging me,” Pitch scoffed, “It’s about your Jack Frost…” Elsa sat up so fast their heads collided. “Ouch! Why you-“ Pitch yelled, standing up. Feeling dizzy, Elsa got to her feet as well. “What about Jack?” She asked. Rubbing his head, Pitch turned around, “I’ve lost interest in telling you…” “Please!” Elsa ran forward and grabbed the back of his cloak, holding him back, “Tell me!” Pitch yanked his robes from her grasp and dusted himself off. “Might as well now… I just talked to him, was going to tell him where you were…” “W-why?” Elsa stammered, shocked. “It doesn’t matter now, he said he’s not coming for you. He doesn’t care for you anymore, not after what you did to him.” Pitch turned around, his pointy teeth bared, “Some hero your Jack Frost is…” “No…” Elsa said, backing away, nearly falling down again. She could hardly breathe. He must be lying, Jack promised! “You- you’re lying to me. He wouldn’t… he couldn’t…” “Well, maybe you’ll believe once I take you to my castle.” “What?” “He’s not coming for you EVER. You’re going to be alone…just what you wanted.” Pitch grin even wider as the sounds of roaring and men shouting reached their ears. “What’s going on?” Elsa asked, heading towards the stairs. “Pitch?” But Pitch Black was gone. Elsa ran down the stairs. “Jack? Is that you?” If her monster was attacking him… “NO! Jack!” She ran to the front doors and flung them open, but it wasn’t Jack. It was Anna’s Prince Hans and some men. They had come for her… “That’s right…” The voice said, “At my request… they will bring you to me!” Elsa closed the doors as fast as she could and ran back up the stairs, but two men had seen her. “Up there!” One yelled and she scurried up the stairs. She was too frightened to summon anything to block them and she didn’t want to hurt them. What was she going to do? Elsa gasped; she had run into a dead end, all the way to the top floor of her ice castle. She turned around and the two men were at the doors, pointing their crossbows at her. “No please…” She begged, stepping back, but one man let an arrow fly. Elsa raised her hands in front of her face, but felt no arrow hit. She opened her eyes and saw she had blocked the arrow with a shield of ice. “Stay away…just stay away…” She shot warning jets of ice at them. “NO Elsa…you belong to me now.” Elsa lost control and shot spikes at one man, pinning him against the wall, one inches from his throat. No she thought, as a second jet of blue light knocked the other man’s crossbow from his hands. She conjured walls of ice and began to push him off the balcony. Tears were running down her face. Please, make it stop! Make it stop! She told the voice. “Queen Elsa!” A voice yelled. She turned around. “Don’t be the monster they fear you are!” Prince Hans said, and the creature released Elsa, and she stopped the magic. Relieved, she stared at Hans, about to thank him, but suddenly he ran and hit the crossbow of the man pinned on the wall. The man had tried to shoot Elsa, but Hans sent the arrow up and it severed the chandelier. Elsa gasped and looked up as it began to fall. Then she ran, tripped, and all went black. * * * * * * * * * * * * “Woohoo!” Jack yelled raising his arms. He never knew being pulled by flying reindeer could be so fun! Bunnymund didn’t seem to be enjoying the experience though. His paws were clenched tight on the edges of the sleigh; he looked like he was praying to the moon. Jack Frost chuckled and turned back around. Suddenly the sleigh was knocked, as if they had run into an invisible obstacle. Jack clung on for dear life and the sleigh spun in circles. “Hang on!” North yelled, but Sandy let go and flew to a dark circle hanging in the sky. “Pitch!” Bunnymund cried,” Sandy come back!” Jack let go of the sleigh too and flew after Sandy. “Come back!” He yelled, but it was too late. Pitch Black aimed a dark blue arrow at Sandy and it hit him in the back, turning his golden sand into dark black, and it was spreading fast. “NO!” Jack yelled and Sandy dissolved into Pitch’s black sand. Hundreds of Nightmares converged on Jack, knocking him back. A small tooth had come to help him but got knocked back as well. Jack Frost caught her in his hands as they fell. He put he in his pocket and reached desperately for his staff, which was spinning above him. He got it and flew back up to Pitch. More black sand flew to meet him, but Jack was ready. Hatred spread through him as he yelled and charged the black sand. A shocking blue light grew around him, crackling like electricity. He slammed his staff against his hands and a jet blue force charged the black sand. It blew up and Jack fell, not knowing, not caring about what happened to Pitch Black. Jack didn’t bother to catch his staff now. He was falling and loving the feeling. It would end soon, he wouldn’t be confused anymore, he had defeated Pitch, and it was over. But suddenly, as if someone had clicked the on button of a music player he heard Elsa again. “Jack! Jack! Help me! You promised! Jack! Please, Jack!” Like waking up from a dream, Jack saw everything in his head playing as fast as it could. He was Jack, but he had a life before. He had a sister! He saved her! That’s why the moon made him Jack Frost! But it wasn’t everything; something was still missing. Elsa! Pitch had not given him all his memories! Jack opened his eyes and found that he was in North’s sleigh. “Tallyho!” North yelled and they plunged into a portal. “North wait!” Jack yelled, “Pitch gave me my memories…well some anyway!” “What?” North yelled over the flash and swirls of color and sound, then the sled crashed into North’s workshop and they were all thrown from it. “Did I hear you right?” North asked from the top of his giant glob (it was where he had landed). “He didn’t give you everything?” “Yeah,” Jack said, slightly muffled because Bunnymund was sitting on top of him, “Get off Bunny!” “Not all your memories? But he said-“ “We should have never trusted that stinking rat,” Bunnymund snarled, jumping up and dusting himself off. “He did give me some I never knew about before. I know why I’m Jack Frost now but… he didn’t give me anything about Elsa.” Jack said, looking down. He might not know who Elsa was exactly, but she felt important to him. When Pitch had thrown out her name so casually, as if she was toy he played with, Jack wanted to tear him limb from limb. Jack had no idea why he felt this way, but Elsa was special. He had to find her, even if he didn’t remember. “She’s in trouble,” Jack said, rubbing his head, “I’m sure Pitch has got her. I feel like the only way I can find out who she is, and what she means to me…is to see her again.” The guardians stared at him. “Oh Jack…” Tooth said, “We’ll help you.” “No, I’ve got to do this on my own…” “You know mate, we’re not entirely worthless,” Bunnymund scowled. “Wait…” North stroked his beard (for the four hundred and one, Jack counted). “Maybe we could be a distraction for Pitch.” “I can’t let anymore of you die for me…” “Jack, understand we are willing to.” Tooth whispered. A squeak came from Jack’s sweatshirt pocket, and Baby Tooth flew out and circled Tooth. She seemed to agree with Tooth. “Alright, I think I know where she is if Pitch’s got her,” Bunnymund said, “but we’re taking my way of transportation.” * * * * * * * * * * * * Elsa woke up in a small and dark room. Judging from her wisps of breath, the room was cold, but she couldn’t feel it. She sat up and a blanket fell off her. She looked up and saw a small window on the far wall. Elsa ran towards it but her arms were yanked back. She looked around and saw that her hands were covered and chained to the floor. Stepping carefully over the chains, she leaned to look out the window. She could see a frost covered bay and ships stuck to the ice. She was in the Arendelle dungeon. “Oh no,” Elsa whispered, “What have I done?” Arendelle was completely frozen. Anna was right. She started as the dungeon door creaked open. It was Prince Hans. “Why did you bring me here?” She demanded. Elsa wanted to know how Prince Hans could be in league with Pitch Black. “It was the best I could do,” Prince Hans said. “But I’m a danger to Arendelle. Where’s Anna?” Elsa asked. “Princess Anna has not returned,” Hans answered. Terrified, Elsa glanced out the window again. Anna? In this storm? “Just reverse this winter…” Hans said, coming closer, “Bring back summer…” Elsa shook her head, “Don’t you see? I can’t!” Prince Hans looked shocked and sad. “You have to tell them to let me go!” Elsa pleaded. “I’ll do what I can,” Hans said, and he left. Elsa was so scared. If Anna was hurt… If Jack wasn’t coming… Frost started creeping up on her chains, she watched horrified and the frost spread around the room. She pulled on her chains, trying to free herself. Elsa had to find Jack. Pitch must have done something to him, she thought. He promised he would find me, but… maybe he wasn’t coming… Elsa sank back onto the stone bed. What if Jack really did hate her? But how could she trust Pitch… If Jack was never going to see her again… if she was never going to see him again… Something tore in her heart, making her weak and helpless. She had no one now. No one. She was alone! Just like Pitch said… forever…alone… “Well, well, well…” The dark voice said, “Look who dropped by.” Pitch emerged out of the shadows. “Well, well, well,” He repeated, “You might just bring the end of Jack Frost and the guardians my dear.” Elsa looked at him, confused, “What do you mean? Jack isn’t coming for me…” “Of course he is. He has to… Jack Frost will walk right into my hands. You’ve been very helpful.” “No!” Elsa cried, “Leave him alone! It’s me you want! Stop it! Please!” “Oh no Elsa…it’s never been you… it’s Jack Frost” * * * * * * * * * * * * Jack popped out of the tunnel, “That was awesome!” Who knew underground travel was just as fun as flying. Tooth and North didn’t look happy though. They ground and got to their feet, clutching their stomachs. “Tada!” Bunnymund said, gesturing to a broken down bed. “Um…” Jack scratched his head, “What exactly are we looking at?” Bunnymund rolled his eyes, “This is Pitch’s lair! A thank you would be nice!” Jack looked through the broken bed and saw a deep hole in the center of it. “Nice job bunny,” North said, thumping Bunnymund on the back. “Jack! Jack! Is that you?” That voice…he knew that voice! Without another thought, Jack flew down the hole. “Jack wait!” He heard the guardians cry, but he couldn’t wait. “Elsa!” He yelled, speeding up. “Jack!” Jack landed in a dark room filled to the brim with golden cylinders. Pitch had not only stole his teeth; he had stolen everybody’s. “Elsa?” Jack called. “Jack! Jack!” Her voice was coming from the mist of the golden cylinders. Jack couldn’t think why. “Apparently you do care…” a voice said. Jack swung his staff around but Pitch deflected it. “You know…” Pitch said, advancing on Jack, “You remind me of her…Elsa.” “Is that so?” Jack growled, keeping his staff level with Pitch’s face. “Oh yes. You see, though human, she too has been gifted with amazing powers. But.. she was merely a child and you know how prone children are to fear…” “Elsa?” “She ended up sacrificing a great deal for the sake of her little sister. Not as much as you, I’m sure. You died so your sister would live…” “Get to the point!” Jack yelled, wanting to hit Pitch so hard, he would never torment Elsa again. “Every day, she died a little inside so hers would be safe…from herself.” “Shut up!” Jack roared, and he shot more ice at Pitch, but Pitch was ready for it. He melted into the shadows and the ice hit the wall. “Where is she? What did you do?” Jack yelled, looking around the walls. “More to the point Jack… what are you going to do about it?” “Jack! Jack!” Pitch Black’s voice had stopped, but Elsa’s started again. Jack flew through the golden cylinders, trying to locate the voice. He found it. It wasn’t Elsa; it was coming from the golden cylinder that had his face on it. Jack hesitated, then picked it up. Instantly, memories flooded into his brain: A little girl with white-blonde hair was looking at him through the window… Staring back, he mouthed,” Can you see me?”… “Hi, I’m Jack. Jack Frost.” “Jack Frost?” Elsa repeated in wonder. “Yep,” replied Jack Frost,” What’s your name? “Elsa” She whispered. “Elsa, that’s a lovely name.” Jack said, grinning slightly... She flung open the door and ran…. No matter what happens, I will always find you.” “Elsa!” Jack gasped. He remembered everything: his feelings, their story, where she had gone…he had been looking for her then Pitch came and stole his memories…. He had to find her, but if she wasn’t with Pitch, where could she be? * * * * * * * * * * * * Elsa tugged at her chains, but they wouldn’t come off. Freezing them wasn’t enough. She had to escape! She had to warn Jack. She couldn’t just sit here and let him get captured. She still couldn’t believe Pitch had ruined her life, Jack’s life, Anna’s life, and her parent’s lives just to prove he could be believed in. And now he was going to destroy Jack Frost, the only one who was in his way for taking the world back to darkness and fear. * * * * * * * * * * * * Jack flew through the night sky. Renewed by his memories, happy that he could remember, but afraid as well. Where was Elsa? What was Pitch doing to her? Jack couldn’t help but feel that it was his fault that Pitch had gotten Elsa… “Jack! Jack!” Jack nearly fell out of the sky. This time, Elsa’s voice wasn’t coming from the cylinder. It was coming from a distance, blown towards him by the wind. “Wind! Take me to Elsa!” Jack swung his staff and the wind carried him away. Jack zoomed through the air calling, “Elsa! Elsa!” Arendelle castle loomed before him. Pitch was keeping her at Arendelle? Why in the name of blue moon was he-? “Elsa!” Jack cried. He had seen her. She was looking out a bottom window in the darkest part of the dungeon. “Elsa!” He flew towards the window. * * * * * * * * * * * * “Jack?” Elsa whispered. She thought she had heard his voice. No… he couldn’t be here… it just was the wind. She continued her struggle with her chains, but then heard it again. “Elsa!” Elsa looked out the window… There he was! Flying towards her! “Jack! No! You have to get out of here! She yelled, hoping he could hear her. “Jack! It’s a trap!” But the voice chuckled in her head, “Too predictable…” “Jack!” Elsa screamed, tears poring down her face, “Stay away! Don’t come! Please!” * * * * * * * * * * * * Elsa seemed to be yelling something at him, but Jack couldn’t hear. All he could hear was his own voice in his head saying, “Get her out… get her out!” He raised his staff and yelled, hoping Elsa heard him; “Stand back!” and he blasted the dungeon wall apart. “Jack!” “Elsa!” Jack landed next to her and stared at her enclosed hands, “I’m going to get you out of here…” “Jack,” Elsa sobbed. “It’s okay… I’m here and I’m never going to lose you again.” Jack began to tug at her chains as well. “No… Jack… you have to listen… you’ve got to get out of here…” “Are you crazy?” Jack stared at her, “I’m not leaving without you!” “Jack, you don’t understand… Pitch-“ But Elsa was interrupted by a glowering laugh. “I knew you would come Jack. Love is such a easy thing to control…” “Jack! Run!” “I’m not going anywhere!” Jack yelled, raising his staff again, “Show yourself Pitch!” “Jack please…” Tears were gushing out of Elsa’s eyes, “Run…” then she collapsed. “Elsa!” Jack knelt down, trying to shield her from whatever force was tormenting her. “Let her go!” Jack yelled. “Oh I intend too…if you would take her place…” Pitch emerged out of the shadows, his pointed teeth bared. “Jack no…” Elsa moaned. “Take her-?” “Yes… I’ll let her go. Give me your staff… give me yourself… and she will be set free.” “Just like that?” Jack asked, staff still pointed at Pitch’s heart. “Just like that.” Pitch agreed. Jack sighed and held out his staff to Pitch. He took it. “Now…” Jack said, “Let her go.” “Hmmm? No…” Pitch said. Jack’s eyes widened but it was too late. Pitch snapped Jack’s staff in half. It was like something ripped inside Jack. “Argh!” He yelled, and dropped to his knees. “I’ve toyed with you long enough Jack Frost…” Pitch said, looming over him, “Time to say goodbye…” Then all went black. * * * * * * * * * * * * The wind was swirling around in Elsa’s hair. She was too weak to get up. Pitch had grabbed her; she was locked in battle with the coils of a devil-like creature. “Jack,” She whispered. “It’s okay… I’m here and I’m never going to lose you again.” Jack didn’t lose her… she had lost him. * * * * * * * * * * * * “Pitch!” Jack roared in the blackness, “We had a deal! Let Elsa go!” “Oh… I’m sorry Jack, I would have, but she’s become an asset to my plan…” Jack groped around, trying to feel his way out, but something silky and strong grabbed his arms and bound them tightly. Jack struggled, “Pitch!” “Should I tell you why? Oh it’s been such a fun sport telling Elsa what I was going to do to you… ripped her apart it did. She’s broken now… but you… you’re still fighting…” Pitch chuckled. “Let her go! Leave her alone!” Jack struggled even harder, but more silky tendrils wrapped around him. “It’s too late Jack…she’s given up…she’s mine…” “NO!” Jack yelled and the same blue lightning blasted the tendrils back and Jack fell hard onto a stone floor. Pitch laughed, “There is no way out Jack… Elsa delivered you to me and here you will stay…” “Stop it, stop it!” Jack covered his ears. Pitch continued to laugh that horrible dark laugh. “Jack, help me! Jack you promised! Jack! Jack, please! Jack! Jack!” Elsa’s voice swirled in his head, then her cries turned to screams. “Jack! It hurts! Make it stop! Come back! Where are you? Jack! Jack! Please come back!” * * * * * * * * * * * * “Elsa, help me! Elsa! It hurts! Where are you? Elsa! You betrayed me! Elsa!” Jacks voice screamed in her head and Elsa sobbed. Pitch was torturing Jack, she knew it. Pitch was letting her hear what Jack was saying. He was torturing her too. Elsa had to get out…the wall was still broken down, wind swirling around the room. Elsa looked down at her hands; the chains were completely covered in ice. She gave an experimental tug and she heard the bolts groan slightly, and then pulled harder. Her hands were coming free! Elsa pulled with all her might and the chains broke off her hands. She was free! Then she heard some people outside the dungeon door. “It’s frozen shut!” “The door!” “Get her!” Elsa ran out the broken wall and into the storm. * * * * * * * * * * * * Jack was shaking, with anger and fear. He had never felt so much hate in his life. “Enough!” he yelled and stood up. Suddenly, the wall of blackness was blasted away and Pitch fell to the ground, exposed. Staring around in disbelief, Pitch quickly got to his feet. “You’re stronger than I thought…” Pitch said, taking care to keep distance between him and Jack, “Maybe I could use an ally like you…” “Never…” Jack growled. “What if it concerned Elsa’s freedom and life? She could be yours. Stay with you forever as we finally make the world believe in us! It’s true she is your only believer? What do you say to hundreds of believers! Eternal fun! We could-“ “No,” Jack breathed, “they wouldn’t believe in us…they would fear us. And besides, after that first ‘deal’, how am I ever going to trust you? Just leave her alone.” Pitch laughed. “I gave you a chance Jack, but it looks like Elsa is going to die after all!” Jack gasped, “What did you do?” “Oh something easy, Prince Hans was willing to do anything to become king and… I inspired him a bit. Hans trapped the Princess Anna in a room, where she is going to freeze to death…” he laughed with mirth, “And he accused Elsa of killing her, and sentenced her to death.” “No…” Jack dropped to his knees. “You’ve lost Jack Frost…” But there was clang and an Australian accent rang through the air: “Release him Pitch, before I knock you cold!” Jack looked up, the room he was in was a cellar and the door was high above him and peering through it, were the guardians. “You heard him Pitch!” Tooth yelled, “Let him go!” “Oh you can have HIM…” Pitch laughed “but good luck having him fight…he’s just a poor, broken Jack Frost.” And Pitch vanished. Tooth flew down to Jack, “What happened, are you alright?” “Elsa…” He croaked, “I remembered, I found her, but Pitch was waiting and now… because of me… Elsa is dead.” Jack put a hand on his pounding head. He couldn’t believe it. He wouldn’t…Elsa…dead? But North said, “Pitch is a liar Jack. We all know that. I’m sure Elsa is still alive, but it might only be now that we can save her.” Jack looked up, “I have noting now. He broke…Pitch broke my staff. I can’t help you…” Bunnymund threw down two thin pieces of wood to Jack, “You mean this?” Jack picked them up in wonder. Could he fix it? Could he put it back together? With his thoughts on Elsa and his love for her, he slammed the two parts together. There was a huge ball of blue light and frost shot from the staff. It was fixed! Jack stood up, looked at the guardians and a grin spread over his face, “Let’s go scare the boogeyman.” * * * * * * * * * * * *
