Fullness of Grace Ministry International 2 Corinthians 2:17 "For we are not like the great number who make use of the word of God for profit: but our words are true, as from God, being said as before God in Christ." (Bible in Basic English) Most believers are aware that Paul was highly educated! He makes use of words and phrases from various arenas of life. In this verse he is borrowing terms from the merchant trade, especially traveling salesman. They would take new wine that had not properly aged and mix it with old wine and sell it. This practice was so despised by people in some towns the people involved were not allowed to take part in the government if they had been in that business in the last ten years. They were selling a dishonest product! Paul is equating this with the people teaching that to be a believer a person had to keep the Old Covenant Law. It is a dishonest product! Today we are still struggling with the same problem. All denominations are built on this premise!! Many "free" churches operate on the same lie. The Gospel of Grace says all believers are ministers of reconciliation, equipped to make followers of Jesus as we go about our daily lives. The very life of Jesus in us makes "our words are true, as from God, being said as before God in Christ." Grace, joy and peace in the Spirit!
