#FunFact: Irish pro-wrestler Danno OMahony (1912-1950) pioneered the move known as the Irish Whip, and used it as a finisher--ouch! Born in Ballydehob, County Cork, OMahony was the 16th man certified as world champion, controversially, in the lineage that goes back to #Hackenschmidt and #FrankGotch; #EdStrangerLewis retired undefeated, so OMahony beat #JimLondos in July 1935 and held it for 216 days, pulling down six figures in the Depression. He later unified the belts in Boston (Cinderella Man was the special ref) and got one of the rare and elusive pins on Lewis before losing to Dick Shikat at Madison Square Garden (in a show promoted by Vince McMahons grandfather). Most of these guys were shooters, as they say, and they were dead serious about their money; the word fake in no way applies to what happened that night. OMahony held Irish military records for hammer-throw for over 50 years, and had worked across the country as champion for most of a year in a most dubious professional environment. The blowback from that created a scandal, and the championship remained split for years; OMahony wrestled years more, but never got close again; he fought Nazis in World War II and died in a car wreck in 1950, age 38. Never seen anything by him, except this stuff... youtube/watch?v=MOoBSUQSp80
