Future History: April 5, 2063, a scientist Zefram Cochrane, makes the first faster than light speed space flight in the Spaceship Phoenix. He built the ship himself , near his home in Montana, from a surplus nuclear missile. Because he went into warp speed, the flight was noticed by the chance passage of star ship from another solar system, and Earth made its first contact with a species alien to itself. Cochrane was in his late 30s or early 40s at the time, and his exact birth date is unknown because records had been lost following the third world war. Even though his original motive was to make money from his discovery, because of the poverty he lived in, he later went on to be instrumental in the creation of Star Fleet, which became a strong force for peace in the Galaxy. ( Cochrane was played by James Cromwell in the movie First Contact)
